About the Role

We are currently seeking two individuals with a passion for horticulture and landscape maintenance to join our team as a Landscape Maintenance Foreman in North Vancouver

Reporting to the Division Manager, you will be responsible for performing a variety of work tasks in order to manage the timely completion of grounds maintenance service contracts. 

More specifically, you will supervise a crew of 2-3 staff and operate a variety of tools and equipment to carry out specified job tasks. You will also provide daily progress reporting on job time and cost data.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning and managing the loading/unloading of trucks and trailers in the AM and PM including all daily labour, equipment, and materials required to complete daily objectives
  • Cutting grass, trimming edges, cleaning up refuse, blowing trimmings, fertilizing/watering turf areas, and performing other lawn care duties
  • Moving and installing soil, mulch and plant material to assist with the construction of landscape gardens and related areas
  • Operating power equipment including, but not limited to, lawn mowers, line trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, pruning saws, sod cutters, chainsaws, and snow blowers
  • Supervising the work of crew members to ensure proper safety, quality, and productivity
  • Inspecting all work for quality to eliminate the need for return visits and/or re-work due to quality or customer satisfaction issues
  • Conducting daily inspections and maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Assisting in other job-related duties including construction projects, shop and yard maintenance, vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Completing and submitting all required paperwork on a daily basis, including daily time and service record forms, equipment daily inspection forms, attendance tracking, requests for time off, etc.
  • Maintaining and enforcing standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, job sites, and shop/yard areas

Safety is of utmost importance. As such, part of your supervisory duties will include training crew members on proper and safe job methods. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all work activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner, that all crew members are in compliance with government and company PPE standards and working in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations.

About You

You will be a good fit for this role if you have a minimum of 2 years of experience in landscape/grounds maintenance, including experience with plant identification, specialty pruning, and maintenance job site analysis.

Completion of college, vocational, or technical training (such as Horticulturist Trade Certification or Lawn Gardener Trade Certification) is a definite asset but is not required, as is previous supervisory or management experience. 

Please note that some educational support towards completing college, vocational, or technical training is available. 

You will also possess:

  • Plant knowledge and identification, including specialty trees, shrubs, and perennials
  • Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools, and equipment required to complete various landscape/maintenance practices
  • The ability to operate required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner
  • Excellent observation skills and a strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to carry out verbal instructions, read labels and signs, complete daily reports to the office and/or customers
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • The ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team
  • The ability to carry and use your smartphone or data-enabled device for communication and reporting
  • A  valid Driver's License and safe driving record

Your exceptional customer service skills and problem-solving skills will serve you well in this role. As a real 'people-person' you enjoy both working with the crew, but also interacting with clients. Above all, you must be passionate about gardening and horticulture

Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to follow safe working procedures and be comfortable working near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis. You must be able to work with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, and materials and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift.

Similarly, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and good manual dexterity is required. Please note that you will also be required to work outdoors in various conditions and do some occasional weekend work if required.
