About the Organization

Located in North-central Saskatchewan, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) is the largest First Nation in Saskatchewan, and one of the largest in Canada. 

Our reserve lands extend from rich farmlands in central Saskatchewan, all the way north through the Boreal Forest to the mighty Churchill River and beyond. Our central administration office is located in La Ronge, approximately 240 km north of Prince Albert, on the edge of the Pre-Cambrian Shield.

The LLRIB Health Services Department provides a wide range of Health services to over 4,000 members who reside in Kitsaki, Hall Lake, Sucker River, Little Red River and Grandmothers Bay. Our mission is to provide quality, equitable and accessible programs and support by ensuring the holistic well-being of each member of the community. 

About the Opportunity

The LLRIB Health Services Department has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Health Services to join our team in La Ronge, Saskatchewan.

As our new Health Director, you will assist the LLRIB Heath Department with planning, developing and implementing a variety of activities based on community health needs and priorities. 

Reporting to the LLRIB Executive Director and LLRIB Health Services Inc. Board of Directors, you will oversee the implementation of the five-year Community Health Plan and ensure that priorities are established to provide the overall direction of the organization. You will prepare annual work plans and facilitate the evaluation of the Community Program.  

Key accountabilities of this dynamic role include: 

  • Developing strategies for the enhancement and development of community health to deal with on­going and emergency crisis needs of communities
  • Developing strategies as required, to address program or service changes made by the Federal Government or the Provincial Government, LLRIB leadership and/or Health Board
  • Ensuring compliance of the terms and conditions as agreed to in the Health Transfer Agreements
  • Ensuring through the Community Health Development Plan and on­going data collection, the implementation of long­range development and training plans with the local Health Committees/Board and health staff
  • Implementing determinants of health approach to program planning and implementation, ensuring goals, objectives and activities are congruent with this plan
  • Ensuring a regular strategic planning process occurs with the Program Managers so that goals and objectives are clear and updated on a regular basis
  • Ensuring through the activities of the programs, the development of appropriate protocols for the use of Health employees in the delivery of community Health Services to families and individuals
  • Ensuring through a multi­disciplinary team, the development of a community­based approach to an overall improvement of community Health Services for band members in their home communities
  • Providing accountability of the Health Department in annual program reports and audits
  • Ensuring appropriate program evaluation is implemented including quality assurance evaluations
  • Providing the over­all management of all the Health Department employees of LLRIB

To qualify for this role, you will have a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences, Public Health or Health Administration plus at least 5 years of senior management experience in the administration of Health Services, preferably in the provision of community-based health services with First Nations. You will also have a minimum of 10 years of experience in financial budget management, in excess of 10 million dollars.

You will also possess:

  • Experience in developing and implementing a Long-Term Community Health Plan
  • Experience in First Nations Health System
  • The ability to understand, maintain, and negotiate the Health Funding agreements
  • Awareness of, and the ability to appropriately interpret all applicable laws and regulations for community Health policies and practices
  • A valid class – 5 Drivers’ license and the ability to travel extensively
  • A satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check
  • The ability to speak Cree (asset only)
