You will work with the Child and Family Wellbeing Manager to develop and deliver services which best meet the needs of vulnerable families living in the NPY region and you will work closely with Aboriginal communities, NPYWC directors, members and client families to engage and support communities in a range of programs.

More specifically, some of your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Providing supervision and support that includes case planning support, reviews and guidance;
  • In collaboration with the Child and Family Wellbeing Manager, lead and implement the changes for the program from a recent service model review;
  • Building vicarious trauma awareness in staff including self-care and the management of risk as well as support to work and/or live in a remote community;
  • Providing advocacy support when necessary for families as well as the greater NPYWC organisation with regards to gaps in services for vulnerable families and the provision of culturally appropriate support, education, resources and services;
  • Assisting with the orientation and mentoring of new staff and providing direct support and supervision to the Child Nutrition staff.

About You

Ideally, you will have experience working with Aboriginal people, specifically with children, as well as an understanding of the issues that affect the health of Aboriginal people in remote communities, however this is not mandatory.

As this is a leadership role, you will need to have previous leadership experience and/or an aptitude for leadership, with excellent logistical and planning skills and the ability to manage staff who are working across a vast tristate area in remote locations.

Importantly, NPYWC is looking for candidates with a genuine passion for nutrition, who are comfortable living and working in a remote area. People of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent are strongly encouraged to apply.

A current manual driver's licence is a must - experience in operating a 4WD vehicle and/or first aid certification will be highly regarded, however this training will be provided on commencement with the organisation. Prior to commencement you will need to obtain a current NT Ochre Card (Working with Children Check) and undergo a criminal history check, both of which will be organised by NPYWC.

About the Organisation

The Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council (NPYWC) was created as a result of the Land Rights struggle in South Australia during the late 1970s.

Although originally just an advocacy organisation, NPYWC is now a major provider of human services in the region, in essence working to address the needs that clinical health services cannot, and that government agencies do not directly provide in this remote area.

About the Child Nutrition and Wellbeing Program

The Child Nutrition and Wellbeing Program aims to improve the health and wellbeing of children aged 0-5 years residing in NPY member communities.

This is achieved through:

  • Individual family support and case management for children who are growth faltering or at risk of growth faltering;
  • Child nutrition education and promotion through community based workshops;
  • Support to local communities to increase their capacity to develop and implement community based nutrition programs and strategies; and
  • Locally developed and produced resources.
