About the Organisation and Region

Nyangatjatjara Aboriginal Corporation (NAC)

NAC was established in 1993 with the goal of addressing the employment, educational and economic development needs of three closely related Aboriginal communities in the south-western area of the Northern Territory: Imanpa, Mutitjulu and Kaltukatjara (Docker River).

Today, NAC’s primary focus is education provision for Anangu in the southern region of the Northern Territory. NAC is the owner of an enterprise arm that largely operates independently.

Nyangatjatjara College (NC)

Nyangatjatjara College (NC) opened its doors for the first time on July 21st 1997. In the first five years of its life, the college grew from one building to multiple temporary buildings at four campuses based in the communities it serves.

NC provides secondary education across three remote communities, and primary education in one (Docker River). All of their students are Aṉangu and all speak Pitjantjatjara or Yankunytjatjara as their first language. They are the only secondary education provider in the Northern Territory south of Alice Springs.

About the Region

This region is world renowned, with stunning landscapes steeped in rich Aboriginal culture and history. Central to the region and its economy is Uluru and Kata Tjuta, including the broader National Park, considered one of the world's true natural wonders. The three communities are spread across some 450kms, each with their own distinct histories. This region is central to the broader region often referred to as the tristate area of central Australia.
