About Grow and the Grow Carers Program

Grow is a consumer based, national organisation that provides peer supported programs for growth and personal development for people with a mental illness and those people experiencing difficulty in coping with life's challenges. 

The Grow Carers Program is currently funded from the Commonwealth Department of Families, Housing, Community Services, and Indigenous Affairs as part of "The Targeted Community Care - Mental Health" Program. In October 2019, this project will cease, and funds will be transitioned to the NDIS.

About your new role

Grow now has a rewarding opportunity for a Carer Peer Support Coordinator to work under the Grow Carers Program. This new Carer Program is designed to support carers within the Gippsland region which has been identified as an area of need for Carers. The program will have a strong emphasis on utilising digital and technological resources as a means of support as part of a strategy to reach more carers in this area.

This is a full-time, fixed term contract position finishing 30th June 2019. The successful candidate will have the option to work some days from home and the rest of the week in a shared office site in and around East Gippsland.

Key deliverables for this role include the following:

  • The establishment of at least two, vibrant, online video conferencing groups for Carers within the Gippsland region and surrounding areas;
  • The delivery of 6-8 resilience workshops, including one workshop on accessing the NDIS;
  • The establishment of strong alliances and working relationships with key stakeholders in the Gippsland region, including referral pathways to the Groups; and
  • The development and moderation of a carers forum, including online group forum workshops, for carers to develop their own personal network of peer support.

What you need to succeed

To be considered for this position you will need to hold tertiary qualifications in mental health, human services, social services or similar and have relevant industry experience in a project delivery capacity. Candidates will have a strong understanding of the emotional and mental health challenges of Carers, ideally within regional and rural areas.

This role requires you to set up and use online platforms for the facilitation of group meetings and workshops. Whilst not a particularly digital role, you will need to have at least a basic understanding of how to set these sessions up, as well as being confident in communicating with groups of up to 20 people through these online channels.

Please note: Candidates must hold a current unencumbered driver's licence and the ability to travel regionally when required. You will also be willing to undergo a criminal history check and have the legal right to live and work in Australia.
