About the Opportunity

Moree Plains Shire Council now has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Strategic Planner to join their Planning and Community Development team. This is a full-time role based in Moree, Northern NSW.

Reporting to the Director of Planning and Community Development, this is a key position within Council, taking carriage of, and providing oversight of the strategic land use planning functions of Council, under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and related legislation. 

You will ensure strategic land use planning is consistent with, and supports, Council's Community Strategic Plan, and you will engage with the wider community and relevant stakeholders in strategic planning activities and initiatives.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Ensuring Council's Land Use Planning documents are maintained and updated in accordance with statutory requirements and in a timely manner;
  • Ensuring submissions are made on all legislation, policies and issues which may significantly affect Council’s strategic land use planning;
  • Identifying areas of strategic planning are undertaken in accordance with the strategic planning work schedule, which is grounded in the Community Strategic Plan and Council priorities; and
  • Attending consultative forums within the region as appropriate and disseminating relevant information back through Council.

About You

To be considered for this position you will hold tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or similar and have demonstrated experience in a similar role, with at least some of this gained recently in a Local Government environment.

An analytical thinker, you will have the proven ability to accurately interpret and apply legislative instruments and local policies in, and related to, land use planning. You will then use your strong verbal communication skills to translate this information in a straightforward and simple manner to relay to relevant stakeholders both internally and within the community.

This is a busy role requiring good organisational and prioritisation skills and a 'big-picture' mindset. You will show initiative, be comfortable working autonomously and have a resilient and positive attitude in the course of your work. 

Please Note: A current, manual 'C' Class Driver's License is a requirement of this position.
