About the Organisation

About the Opportunity

Burke Shire Council now has an opportunity for an Administration and Customer Service Coordinator (ACSC) to join their team in Burketown, QLD. This role is being offered on a full-time, contract basis for a minimum of 2 years, with extension likely for the right person.

Reporting to the Executive Manager - Corporate and Community Services, the ACSC is responsible for the development, maintenance and delivery of a wide-range of Council systems and services. This includes operational responsibility for functions such as Administration, Business Improvement, Records Management, ICT, Community Development and Events, Library Operations, Facility and Travel Bookings, Social Media and Website, Publications and Media Releases.

To ensure these functions meet the service levels required by Council and it’s stakeholders, the ACSC manages a team of administrative staff as well as the deliverables of a range of external consultants (IT, Records Keeping, Town Planning).

Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Working closely with the Executive Management Team to support the delivery of corporate objectives and the delivery of action plans;
  • Fostering business improvements through ongoing process reviews, focussing upon whole of business service delivery;
  • Ensuring business improvement project identified by the Executive Management Team are scoped and delivered appropriately, with quality outcomes; and 
  • Ensuring a cohesive and supportive relationship is maintained between the Administration and Customer Service department and all other departments in Council.

About You

To be considered for this position you will have demonstrated experience in a similar role, with at least a portion of this gained within a Local Government environment. Tertiary qualifications in business administration or similar will be highly regarded, however this is not mandatory providing you can demonstrate the required experience.

As this is a leadership role, you must have a proven track record in managing a multidisciplinary team and in delivering high quality internal and external customer service.

This is a pivotal position that will see you acting as the 'glue' of the organisation. You will be supporting and enabling the delivery of portfolios across a diverse and multi-faceted scope of works, so critical to your success will be the ability to respond quickly to changing priorities, and strong networking, negotiation and communication skills to manage these demands. 

Importantly, Council is looking for someone with a high level of emotional intelligence and an awareness of the needs and expectations of a small, remote community. 

Please note: An open, manual Driver's License is a mandatory requirement for this position and a willingness to fly in a light aircraft.
