About the Organisation

New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL) is a large-scale integrated, and leading industrial producer of sustainable palm oil in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

The NBPOL Group has over 76,000 hectares of planted oil palm plantations, a further 10,000 hectares under preparation for oil palm, over 5,500 hectares of sugar cane and a further 9,000 hectares of grazing pasture, twelve oil mills, two refineries (one in PNG, and one in Liverpool, UK), as well as a seed production and plant breeding facility.

Fully RSPO accredited, NBPOL is fully vertically integrated, producing its own seed (which it also sells globally) and planting, cultivating and harvesting its own land and processing and refining palm oil, in both PNG and the UK. It also contracts directly with its end-customers in the EU and arranges
the shipping of its products.

About the Opportunity

NBPOL has an exciting opportunity for a self-reliant, energetic, resourceful talent in the role of Head of Workshops to join the organisation's plantations based in Kimbe, West New Britain, Papua New Guinea.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient management of multiple workshops to ensure the agricultural machines are always working, and that the operation is running at its maximum capacity. You will oversee a total workforce of 150 employees and have a Spare Parts Manager, a Workshop Manager, and Harvesting Workshop Manager reporting to you.

Reporting to the General Manager, key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

    • Developing, implementing and coordinating management plans for all workshop areas to ensure maximum production;
    • Designing and developing reports to analyse workshop performance in terms of cost, production and utilisation;
    • Motivating staff development by implementing Key Performance Areas for all positions;
    • Ensuring that all procedures adhere to company and government policies, as well as ensuring all vehicles are registered, insured and comply with PNG laws;
    • Developing technical relationships with equipment and stock supplies, and manage orders and technical visits as required; and
    • Developing a system for tender preparation, control, evaluation and a process for the selection of capital equipment and the disposal of old equipment.

You will ideally have overseas experience in agricultural workshop management and/or field engineering operations, preferable in the palm oil or sugar-cane industry.

A relevant qualification, such as a degree or HND in engineering or workshop management, will be highly regarded.

Strong computer literacy and solid knowledge of reporting and data control management are also essential.
