About the Opportunities

We currently have two exciting opportunities for Human Resources Advisors to join our teams in both Burlington, Ontario and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. 

Reporting to the Department Manager, you will provide generalist human resources support and identify organizational needs, as well as and develop, deliver, administer, and monitor the effectiveness of human resource initiatives.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Partnering with assigned client groups to provide HR coaching to managers, as well as providing direction, assistance, and coaching in recruitment, selection, resource planning, and retention activities
  • Reviewing employee relations matters and providing guidance and counsel to managers
  • Engaging with legal counsel where applicable on HR litigation matters
  • Providing advice and counsel to management regarding collective agreement administration and the resolution of employee and labour relations issues
  • Acting as spokesperson regarding labour relations processes, particularly collective agreement and grievance administration
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with union representatives to manage grievances and address employee and/or management concerns
  • Working with third-party disability management providers, monitoring claims and supporting return to work initiatives for workers compensation and disability absences
  • Acting as a resource and subject matter expert to managers through the annual performance and salary review processes
  • Assisting with onboarding and integration as it relates to organizational mergers and acquisitions
  • Anticipating client group requirements and providing high-quality customer service in a timely and accurate manner to managers and employees
  • Working closely with the Human Resources/Payroll team and Terrapure’s leadership to identify organizational needs to define and deliver HR strategies
  • Participating as a key project team member for annual HR project initiatives
  • Identifying and evaluating changes in industry practices and business trends and capitalizing on opportunities that will improve the company’s competitive position
  • Monitoring and advising on legislative and/or corporate policy issues in HR matters, ensuring compliance, and providing guidance related to regulatory requirements

In order to qualify for these roles, you will have a post-secondary education in Human Resources or related discipline and a minimum of 5 years of related experience. A CHRL designation is a definite asset.

With strong business acumen, you will have the ability to understand and provide business solutions in the areas of staffing, employee relations, labour relations, training, disability management, compensation, and other key areas of HR.

You will also possess:

  • Previous experience in labour relations (required)
  • Experience implementing successful conflict management strategies
  • Strong analytical and research abilities, along with the ability to ensure recommendations are based on objective data and legislative requirements
  • The ability to deliver on project-oriented objectives, including design, documentation, communication, and implementation of new employee programs
  • Demonstrated business acumen skills to understand the business and related human resource requirements
  • The ability to travel within Canada up to 20% of the time, with up to one week away per trip
  • Industrial and/or manufacturing background, or exposure to field operations (asset only)
  • Experience with continuous/process improvement and process mapping (asset only)
  • Bilingualism in English/French (asset only)

With strong interpersonal skills, you must have the ability to quickly develop and maintain strong working relationships with team members and operational and corporate client groups including coaching and mentoring at a managerial level. Similarly, excellent problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to recommend and communicate viable solutions to complex issues.

Organized and self-starting, with have high personal expectations regarding quality of work. Above all, you must be flexible and have the ability to adapt to changing priorities and circumstances, with a high tolerance for ambiguity and uncertainty. Due to the nature of this role, you must be comfortable working independently but still collaboratively a part of a larger team.
