About the Organization

Formed in 2015, the Central Okanagan Community Food Bank is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to providing healthy, nutritious food to those who need it most. We rely on the generosity of the community to support the work we do through the donation of food, funds and time. These donations come from individuals, families, organizations, community groups as well as various fundraising/food-raising efforts.

We are a team of 6 full-time staff, 3 part-time staff and 100+ volunteers, all of whom are dedicated to providing much-needed food and support to those living in Kelowna and West Kelowna. Many families struggle to make ends meet and children suffer the most. 33% of our clients are children under the age of 15.

About the Opportunity

The Central Okanagan Community Food Bank currently has an exciting opportunity for a Revenue Development Officer to join our team in Kelowna, BC. 

In this role, you will work with the Executive Director to set annual fundraising targets and budgets for the Kelowna and West Kelowna area and ensure that these targets are met. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Identifying and building a potential major donors base through networking, researching, & staying abreast of current events
  • Making presentations to third party fundraisers to encourage their understanding and excitement about the Food Bank's work
  • Working with corporate sponsors on marketing relationships, corporate sponsorships and pro bono relationships
  • Developing, in conjunction with the Communications Officer, comprehensive communication plans to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities
  • Developing, implementing and managing initiatives that cultivate relationships that foster financial giving and volunteerism
  • Managing all aspects of special event coordination and including but not limited to staffing, volunteer recruitment, supervision, training and acknowledgements
  • Debriefing all in-house third-party events to identify areas of strength and those requiring improvement in order to ensure greater success at future events
  • Soliciting silent auction items, prizes and in-kind donations for all in-house events and assisting in third party events when requested
  • Attending regular and special event networking functions to cultivate new donor and volunteer relationships
  • Approving third-party event applications
  • Identifying any external issues that may affect the Food Bank’s profile in the community at large and providing the Executive Director with profiling and advice as required

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a post-secondary degree in marketing, communication or a relevant field combined with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar fundraising role. Previous experience with grant writing will be considered an asset. 

Our ideal candidate will have a track record of exceeding fund targets, have previous non-profit experience, strong problem-solving skills, and have the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks as they arise.

Finally, you will be personable, compassionate, enjoy working as part of a team and have a passion for the work that Food Banks do to help communities. As an expert communicator, you will be comfortable forming relationships with current team members and also outside third party potential donors. 

Please note that this is a full-time role with varying hours dependent on the needs of the organization, and weekend and evening work will be required.
