About Youth+

Edmund Rice Education Australia Youth+ (EREA Youth+) is a network of flexible learning centres that offer young people an opportunity to reconnect with education in a setting that is non-judgemental, inclusive and flexible. With a focus on literacy and numeracy, all programming and learning activities are developed based on young people’s individual learning plans which are customised based on learning levels and what they require to re-engage.

About the Opportunity

EREA Youth+ now has a fun and rewarding opportunity for an organised and outgoing part-time Cook/Chef to join the team at Geraldton Flexible Learning Centre in Geraldton, WA.

This role is offered on a part-time basis during term times only, with 15-20 hours per week on offer. Working hours are negotiable for the successful candidate.

Reporting to the Head of Campus and the Network Principal, you will primarily be responsible for the setup, preparation, serving and packdown duties of the campus kitchen. 

You would be preparing roughly 80 lunch meals per day, with occasional breakfasts and preparation for excursions and other offsite activities.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Preparing, cooking and serving lunch meals to the young people and school community in accordance with healthy eating guidelines;
  • Building positive relationships with the young people, including assisting them to prepare food in collaboration with other staff members;
  • Stocktaking and ordering supplies for lunch, excursions and other occasions as deemed necessary;
  • Compiling and maintaining records of food use and expenditure;
  • Monitoring menus and spending to ensure that meals are prepared economically; and
  • Maintaining and cleaning the kitchen premises in accordance with OHS standards.

About You

To be considered for these positions you must have demonstrated experience in the preparation of food in a commercial kitchen, with tertiary qualifications within the industry highly regarded.

You must have a willingness to engage with young people - they may see you as part of their support network and will sometimes join you in the kitchen to help prepare meals. Your great sense of humour will be crucial to your success in a diverse and varied environment working with youth that have disengaged from mainstream education.

The ideal candidate will have a calm, patient and collected demeanour with an enthusiasm for providing support to disenfranchised and disengaged young people with the challenges they face.

Please note: Before commencing, the successful candidate will need to hold (or obtain) a current Working With Children Card and a National Criminal History Check.

About the Benefits

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with an attractive salary circa $47,000 - $51,700 FTE equivalent plus super, based on your experience and qualification level (in line with the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Perth Non-Teaching Staff Enterprise Bargaining Agreement 2014; Salary Schedule June 2018).
