We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Production Supervisor to join our team in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

In this role, you will manage the operations of all production departments for morning and afternoon shifts.

More specifically, you will lead and oversee the operation of the bakery, mixing, assembly, finishing, and packaging departments and lead all lead-hands in these departments, coordinates staff activities, and assigns work based on the Company’s requirements.

You will also participate in the planning and implementation of any training for the production team to increase the overall team productivity, review daily labour requirements, and work with the HR team to hire temporary team members as required.

Above all, you will ensure all health and safety, food safety, and quality standards are followed by the entire production team. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing and coordinating the daily production plan, as well as monitoring/reviewing daily production results by lines/jobs
  • Maintaining workflow by monitoring steps of the process, setting processing variables, reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries, observing control points and equipment, facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points, and providing insights on cost reduction
  • Scheduling/assigning hourly personnel to achieve production plan, monitoring progress and revising schedules (if required), managing other assigned supervisory personnel ensuring maximum capacity
  • Developing and supervising crews on shift while providing leadership to employees and directing production and related activities on a shift
  • Providing performance management counselling and/or progressive discipline in a timely fashion (as required)
  • Maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring continued compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, JHSC recommendations or MOL work orders, Company Safety rules and Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Control Point (HACCP), British Retail Consortium (BRC) requirements and all quality control and food safety policies and procedures
  • Performing any other technical or production-related task, as the circumstances require
  • Monitoring key performance metrics in the areas of customer service and cost
  • Coordinating and collaborating with senior management, Customer Service team, Plant Manager and team, suppliers, and third-party service providers
  • Communicating with other departments as required to ensure proactive resolution of requests/issues

What we need!

To qualify for this role you must have a good understanding of integrated supply chain and logistic concepts and experience with implementing/working with a modern ERP tool.

You will also possess:

  • A strong background in Continuous Improvement theory and application
  • Superior communication skills in a multicultural environment and the ability to deal with a variety of front-line industrial relations issues
  • Strong people management experience with the ability to develop team members and upskill to the next level
  • Knowledge of good labour/management practices including progressive discipline and positive reinforcement techniques
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards, regulations, and best practices
  • The flexibility to adapt to a 24 hour, 5-day operation schedule

You will do well in this role if you are energetic, can take initiative and use good judgment to make daily business decisions. Similarly, a process-driven work ethic and the ability to lead and sustain change management is essential. 

Our ideal candidate for this role will have 3-5 years of related experience in a unionized food manufacturing environment. A post-secondary degree in Engineering Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related discipline will be considered an asset, as will a professional designation such as P.Log/CITT.
