About the Organisation

Yipirinya School is one of only a few Independent Aboriginal Community-controlled Schools in Australia. It was founded by Indigenous Elders in Alice Springs and remains under control of a 100% Aboriginal Board. The only school in Australia that teaches four Aboriginal languages, Yipirinya School has a unique history and is at the cutting edge of Aboriginal Two-Way Education.

About the Opportunity

Yipirinya School currently has a full-time opportunity for a Special Education Teacher/Coordinator to join their team in Alice Springs, NT.

This is a crucial role, responsible for planning and implementing educational assessment programs which engage young people and assisting in the development of personalised plans for every child.

More specifically, your duties may include (but will not be limited to):

  • Attending classes to observe and assess the individual needs of each child;
  • Developing individual and personalised education adjustment plans for children who require additional support;
  • Working collaboratively with the leadership team;
  • Overseeing the curriculum and making suggestions for potential changes;
  • Liaising with external agencies and organisations as required; and
  • Managing all administrative duties including extensive report writing and ensuring all required paperwork is achieved.

About You

Yipirinya School is seeking a tertiary qualified teacher who has demonstrated experience developing individualised plans for children who require additional support and/or assistance. You must be especially skilled in report writing and ensure that deadlines are met and adhered to at all times.

In addition, you will have a proven understanding of the obstacles and difficulties that children may face when they require additional support in terms of their education. 

This position will suit an individual with a true passion for strengthening Aboriginal communities through education. Your enthusiasm for closing the gap in Indigenous education, coupled with a long-term change mindset, will ensure your success in this role.

Please Note: To be considered, you must hold a current Ochre Card / Working With Children Check and be registered (or able to obtain registration) as a teacher in the Northern Territory prior to commencing employment.
