About the Opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a Lead Parts Technician to join our team in Taber, Alberta.  

Reporting to the General Manager and working in a retail environment, you will provide hands-on telephone sales support, sell spare and replacement parts for farm machinery, and provide excellent customer service with the goal of increasing sales while ordering/sourcing parts in the quickest and most efficient way possible.

While you will have a standard Monday to Friday work week, please note that you will be part of an on-call schedule in which some weekend work will be required seasonally. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Receiving and organizing the logistics of incoming and outgoing shipping, parts, supplies and whole goods
  • Processing incoming requisitions and issuing or distributing parts and supplies for internal usage, as well as preparing requisition orders to replenish parts and supplies
  • Maintaining records of orders and the amount, kind, and location of parts on hand using computerized software supplied
  • Determining parts required are under warranty or not, and ensuring correct paperwork is produced and submitted as per company procedures
  • Posting receipts, stock adjustments, and request for credits
  • Entering sales slips into the system, and keeping track of back-orders and follow up with vendors and customers
  • Ensuring all paperwork as required relating to service or warranty parts is filled out promptly and correctly and submitted to accounting
  • Ensuring proper use and maintenance of computer software to maintain security and confidentiality of data and programs
  • Monitoring jobs and inventory on a daily basis and ensure reports are forwarded to the General Manager in a timely manner
  • Ensuring that daily, weekly, quarterly, and annual reports are generated in a timely manner and forwarded to the General Manager

Supervisory responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that work is prioritized so that  work is detailed to each parts technician, ensuring that the correct jobs are being dealt with at the right times
  • Establishing a schedule so that there is a technician on call during crucial times and seasons
  • Ensuring all personnel are familiar with the company’s Standard Operating Procedures and review as necessary
  • Overseeing time management by ensuring policy regarding overtime, lunch and coffee breaks are adhered to, and that employees log into time clock properly
  • Establishing a safety and maintenance routine within the work area, review fire and emergency procedures on a regular basis
  • Ensuring the overall cleanliness of parts rooms and that all work areas are organized efficiently, with a plan developed and followed to enhance the flow of equipment in the work area

You will also need to research and familiarize yourself with the specific products we sell. From time to time, you may be requested to attend additional training courses as part of your development in the role. 

To qualify for this role, you will be a Journeyman Red Seal Partsperson or have a relevant post-secondary diploma and a minimum of 5 years of parts experience. 

Proficiency with computers and the Microsoft Office suite of programs is required. Previous experience with agricultural equipment and previous supervisory experience are both assets but are not required. 

Please note that we work with a number of manufacturers and some are located in European Countries and America and as a result, you will need to be comfortable working with and handling multiple currencies.  

You will also possess:

  • The ability to read electrical and pneumatic schematic drawings (required)
  • Working knowledge of computer programming and manipulation of IBM compatible PC’s within Windows environment
  • A basic understanding of industrial farm machinery
  • The ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds

You will do well in this role if you have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to direct others. You are an analytical and organized professional who works well under pressure and who can multitask. 

Above all, you will be extremely organized and have a positive can-do attitude. Similarly, the ability to work as part of a team is crucial.
