About the Organisation

Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) is a not-for-profit organisation with the aim to prevent domestic and family violence in the community and to empower those affected by it.

CRDVS provides a range of comprehensive and client centred quality services to people who have experienced and/or are experiencing domestic violence, including adult and child counselling, advocacy and court support and training. 

With a vision to bring domestic violence to an end, the service is staffed by a close-knit team of qualified professionals with a commitment to treating all clients with respect and transparency at all times. 

About the Opportunity

CRDVS now has a rewarding opportunity for a passionate and organised Domestic Violence Worker (Court Support) to join their team in Mossman, Far North Queensland on a part-time 0.8 FTE basis (30 hours per week).

Reporting to the Senior Practitioner, you will primarily be responsible for attending court, leading court team meetings, networking with other court services organisations and ensuring all court paperwork is maintained.

Your day to day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Providing effective crisis intervention including intake and risk assessment, information and referral, crisis counselling and case management of clients, and assistance with protection order applications;
  • Leading DV Court Team Briefing meetings to provide information and general assistance to other CRDVS staff in relation to CRDVS assisted protection order applications;
  • Assisting staff at Mossman DV Court by providing information, referral and general assistance in relation to protection orders and assisting judicial officers, court staff and police officers with other court duties; and
  • Exercising initiative to maintain and further develop links, cooperation and networks with other organisations to provide effective services and improve coordination of service responses.

About You

To be considered for this position you must hold tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Community Welfare or a related social science discipline.

Recent graduates or current students who are close to finishing their degree are encouraged to apply, however, must possess experience in the domestic / family violence space, ideally within a specialist service. 

CRDVS is looking for individuals who are skilled at multitasking and able to effectively manage competing priorities. You will be extremely organised, with strong attention to detail and exceptional communication skills. The ability to negotiate will be crucial, as will the ability to advocate for clients while also being respectful of the court at all times.

Due to the nature of the role, it is essential you have a high level of resilience and a passion for working to end domestic and family violence. While not mandatory, candidates who have specific DV experience and are comfortable working across multiple service delivery models will be highly regarded.

Please note: Before commencing, you must hold a current, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence, a current Working with Children Card and a current Police Criminal History Check.
