About the Organisation

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (Anyinginyi) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region.

Anyinginyi consists of five different sections covering a wide array of services such as clinical care and social and emotional well being, health promotions, sports and active lifestyle and administrative services. This diversity allows for a holistic approach to health, ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and well-being is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi health service delivery area stretches north of Tennant Creek to Elliott, across to the east, almost to the QLD border and south to Ali Curung - almost 150,000 square km.

About the Opportunity 

Anyinginyi has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and community-minded Sport & Recreation Section Manager to join the team in Tennant Creek, Northern Territory, on a full-time basis. This is a 2-year contract, renewable upon further funding.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will primarily be responsible for managing the day-to-day provision of innovative, efficient and effective culturally responsive community sports and recreations to the people of the Barkly region.  This will include supervision and management of approximately 8-12 direct reports, plus some school-based apprentices in the process of upskilling to become Sports & Recreation Officers.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Contributing to the development of organisational planning and aligning Sports & Recreation Section activity with Anyinginyi's Health Board and Section goals;
  • Establishing and maintaining strategic links with funding bodies and other service providers, including internal liaison service coordination between Anyinginyi Health sections;
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating sports and recreation programs in Tennant Creek and the wider Barkly region;
  • Managing budgets, including expending funding against allocation with value for money, balancing operational needs against resources and seeking new sources of funding; and
  • Training and supervising Aboriginal employees to develop appropriate skills, expertise and experience in managing community sport and recreation programs.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must hold tertiary qualifications with a minimum of a Certificate III or IV in Fitness or equivalent relevant qualifications and possess demonstrated industry experience at a managerial or supervisory level. 

Your success in this role will be a direct result of your ability to manage resources to function independently as a complex sports and recreation program, spearheading community engagement programs that incorporate Aboriginal culture and traditions into their service delivery.

You will be a proactive leader with a keen understanding of the importance of a fit and healthy lifestyle as it relates to the whole wellbeing of individuals, family and community with the ability to incorporate and communicate this principle into your day-to-day operations.   

You'll need proven experience in budgetary management and financial recording, including key data collection, collation and normative reporting of achievements against funding body KPIs.

The ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people, the leadership skills to restructure teams to meet changing budgetary requirements and a willingness to contribute to Senior Leadership's implementation of the Board's Strategic Plan.

Please note: Prior to commencement you will need to undergo a National Police Clearance and obtain a current Ochre Card. A Driver's License and the ability to drive to communities as required is also essential for this role.
