About the Organisation

The Brewarrina Aboriginal Medical Service (BAMS) services the town of Brewarrina and the surrounding communities in north-west NSW, providing not only health care but also programs which focus on Aboriginal culture, youth, education and all aspects of life in a remote rural community for Aboriginal people.

BAHS is an independent Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) that works with Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service (WAMS) to deliver services that maintains a well disciplined Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO).

Services offered include: public health, family health, sexual health, dental health, mental health and GP Clinical Services. The not-for-profit organisation also provides a diverse range of health programs, including drug and alcohol.

About the Opportunity

BAMS now has a rewarding opportunity for a Remote Area Registered Nurse to join their dynamic team in Brewarrina, NSW. This is a full-time, 3 year contract position, with extension subject to funding.

Reporting to the Service Manager, you will work with BAMS Aboriginal Health Workers to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate enhanced primary health care plans for BAMS clients within the Healthy for Life program. This will include providing chronic disease education and prevention services, particularly with regards to Diabetes management, as well as conducting basic health checks and outreach services to surrounding villages.

To be considered for this position you will be an AHPRA Registered Nurse with demonstrated experience in primary health care and chronic disease treatment and prevention. You will also need to be either qualified to provide immunisation vaccinations to adults, or be willing to obtain an Immunisation certificate.

Ideally, you will have experience living and/or working within Aboriginal communities, however this is not mandatory providing you can demonstrate an understanding of remote health issues and impact of socio-economic factors on communities. 

You will have excellent interpersonal, computer and communication skills, enabling you to liaise effectively with a variety of stakeholders, and write effective reports and submissions. A current driver's licence is also essential.

Please Note: On commencement in this role you will be provided with an intensive, two-week orientation to the individual services BAMS offer and the communities they service.

Brewarrina Aboriginal Medical Service is offering a competitive remuneration package, negotiable with skills and experience, as well as salary sacrificing arrangements with up to $15,000 as a tax-free fringe benefit.

The successful applicant will be eligible for relocation assistance to a max. of $1,500 after the completion of 3 months service and subsidised, furnished accommodation will be available if required to make your career move as smooth as possible. 

Furthermore, BAMS may assist you with the course fees and travel costs for training that is deemed necessary for you to successfully undertake the requirements of your role. All other training that they may reasonably ask you to undertake will be in paid time, and BAMS will support your attendance at courses that will benefit both yourself and the program.
