About the Organisation

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (Anyinginyi) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region.

Anyinginyi consists of five different sections covering a wide array of services such as clinical care and social and emotional well being, health promotions, sports and active lifestyle and administrative services. This diversity allows for a holistic approach to health, ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and well-being is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi health service delivery area stretches north of Tennant Creek to Elliott, across to the east, almost to the QLD border and south to Ali Curung - almost 150,000 square km.

About the Opportunity 

Anyinginyi has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and community-minded Team Leader (Intensive Family Support Service) to join the team in Tennant Creek, Northern Territory, on a full-time basis. This is a 2-year contract, renewable upon further funding.

Reporting to the Section Manager - Piliyintinji-ki Stronger Families, you will primarily be responsible for leading the ongoing development, coordination, implementation and facilitation of the Intensive Family Support Service (IFSS) program.

The IFSS program supports families referred from the Department of Children and Families to improve the care of children identified as being at high risk or experiencing neglect. The program was designed by the Parenting Research Centre (PRC), who provide ongoing training, coaching and resources for IFSS practitioners, and ongoing evaluation of the program.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Leading sustainable and respectful networks in Aboriginal communities within the Barkley Region, particularly with families participating in the IFSS program;
  • Overseeing a team of caseworkers and support workers to deliver the IFSS program to families, providing leadership, comprehensive staff supervision, professional development and team management;
  • Working proactively with the PRC to continue to identify and develop responsive service delivery mechanisms that are child centred, based on Aboriginal child-rearing practices, and responsive to Aboriginal families of the Barkly region; and
  • Fostering a professional and culturally safe work environment through supportive management of the IFSS program team and effective management of IFSs program portfolio.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must hold tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, Psychology, Education or similar, with proficiency in leading case management teams related to family and child work.

You will be a resilient, adaptable and hands-on leader with a proven background in using your high-level interpersonal and intercultural communication skills to develop and maintain effective cross-cultural networks and relationships.

You will need the ability to work independently to achieve success, with the accountability and persistence needed to effectively manage projects and resources in order to meet agreed budgets, timelines and objectives. 

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in delivering community health or welfare services in remote Aboriginal communities that support culturally responsive programs and services that incorporate the importance of traditional cultures, values and protocols, including Aboriginal child-rearing practices.

 Please note: Prior to commencement you will need to undergo a National Police Clearance and obtain a current Ochre Card. A Driver's License and the ability to drive to communities as required is also essential for this role.
