Life Without Barriers now has multiple opportunities for Therapists to join their team on a full-time basis, in Tamworth, NSW. There is also a Lead Therapist / Team Supervisor opportunity available.

These positions are being offered on a contract basis until 30th June, 2020, with extension subject to government funding.

Reporting to the MST-CAN Supervisor, the primary purpose of the Therapist positions will be to conduct therapy and case management associated with Multi-Systemic Therapy (Child Abuse and Neglect). You will provide in-home clinical services, negotiate therapeutic goals and use systemic resources to assist in meeting these goals. You will have a case load of approximately 4-5 families around Tamworth. 

More specifically, this will include, but not be limited to:

  • Conducting MST-CAN assessments including reviewing referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, identifying systemic strengths / weaknesses, and developing an analysis of the problem behaviours within the ecological context;
  • Engaging primary caregivers and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement;
  • Providing direct clinical treatment using methods compatible with MST principles and practices; and
  • Maintaining clear documentation of treatment efforts that promote peer and supervisory review and feedback, and that demonstrate compliance with MST principles and the MST analytic process.

In addition to the above, the Lead Therapist / Team Supervisor will be primarily responsible for:

  • Managing and supporting the team to conduct therapy and case management;
  • Delivering supervision and collaborating with MST experts on service delivery and model fidelity;
  • Building relationships with community stakeholders, such as child protection services, courts, police, health services and schools; and
  • Ensuring the program is compliant with funding requirements and all reporting is undertaken in line with the program outcomes.

In conjunction with management responsibilities, this position will also hold a small therapeutic caseload.

The ideal candidates for these positions will have a Degree in Clinical Social Work or Psychology, or other relevant Family Therapy qualifications that equip you to deliver therapeutic interventions. Any prior experience in MST or MST-CAN delivery will be highly regarded, but is not mandatory.

All candidates will need to either hold registration or be eligible for registration with the relevant professional organisation/s. In addition, you will be on a rotating on-call roster with 3 other Therapists and will need to be available to be on-call for one week per month. 

These positions would be well-suited to individuals who have a few years experience under their belt and are looking to join an organisation that is leading the charge on MST and MST-CAN delivery in Australia. Importantly, LWB is looking for candidates who are willing and able to offer home-based intervention services with confidence, professionalism and empathy.
