About the Opportunity

WAMS is now seeking a full-time Clinic Practice Manager to join their team in Walgett, NSW.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and acting as part of the Senior Management Team, this position is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the WAMS Clinic within legislative standards.

More specifically, your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Managing compliance of the WAMS Clinic with GPA plus Accreditation, QMS standards and secures accreditation;
  • Putting in place systems and procedures under a Continuous Improvement Plan that identifies initiatives that improve health service delivery to clients;
  • Managing implementation of quality improvement initiatives within the WAMS Clinic;
  • Implementing the WAMS Performance Management System for direct reports, including approval and monitoring of annual work plans, performance appraisals and staff training and development;
  • Establishing and maintaining a harmonious and productive working relationship with project officers of RACGP, GPET/RTP, OATSIH and the NSW Department of Health;
  • Maintaining relationships with other AMSs in the region, as well as other health service providers;
  • Negotiating partnerships to improve primary health care delivery and address the determinants of health; and
  • Representing WAMS at meetings, conferences and workshops where required in consultation with the CEO.

About You

To be considered for this position you will be an AHPRA Registered Nurse with significant post-registration experience. Although not essential, relevant post-graduate qualifications will be highly regarded. Experience working in a remote area and/or within Aboriginal communities is required, while experience working within an Aboriginal Medical Service will be highly regarded.

Due to the nature of the role, it is essential you have a deep understanding of clinical practice and legislative requirements. As this position is part of the Senior Management Team, it's also crucial you have excellent leadership skills and experience in performance management. The ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders - from government employees to patients - is also imperative.

An understanding of the primary health care system and issues relevant to closing the gap in health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will also be key, including the ability to communicate and appropriately liaise with Aboriginal clients. 

In addition, the successful candidate will have strong organisational skills and the ability to effectively manage priorities. You will be an adaptable individual who's able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.

What We Offer

Your full-time commitment will be rewarded with an attractive salary circa $120,000 plus super (commensurate with experience and qualifications).

Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) based in Walgett, NSW. Established in 1986, WAMS was the first ACCHO to achieve dual accreditation with the Quality Improvement Council (QIC) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). Services offered include public health, family health, sexual health, dental health, mental health and GP Clinical Services. The not-for-profit organisation also provides a diverse range of health programs, including drug and alcohol and health-related transport services to facilitate attendance at specialist and other appointments.

CELEBRATING 35 YEARS OF WALGETT AMS

WAMS was established in June 1986 after many years of lobbying to provide a service to the Aboriginal community. The first Board of Directors moved a resolution to treat ALL people. Currently, 40% of our clients are non-Aboriginal. WAMS was originally located on the corner of Fox and Sutherland St with a staff of five and in 1989 moved to their current location in Pitt St.

WAMS now has a staff of over one hundred (including visiting personnel) making it one of the largest employers in Walgett and they endeavour to support their staff in whatever way they can and offer personal and professional development with training to upskill and fun days to boost morale and comradeship.
