About the Opportunity

St Francis Memorial Hospital is currently seeking an enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join their team in Barry's Bay, Ontario.

Reporting directly to the Nursing Care Facilitator and the Director of Patient Care Services/CNE, the Registered Nurse will carry out nursing responsibilities based on a focused body of knowledge specific to them. Functioning independently in a fast paced environment they will perform acts requiring knowledge, skill, and judgement in order to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care within both nursing units. The Registered nurse will work on a shift basis as mandated by a master schedule which will also dictate their float shifts between the inpatient unit and the medical unit. 

More specifically your responsibilities will include:

  • Systematically assessing the health status of the individuals in your care to ensure their needs are met.
  • Consulting with patients in order to perform relevant strategies and interventions. 
  • Floating between the inpatient unit and the medical unit as mandated by the master schedule.
  • Demonstrating leadership by providing, facilitating, and promoting the best care/service to your patient and the public at large. 
  • Contributing to and participating in the hospital-wide continuous quality improvement program by assisting to implement changes as required in order to improve services and enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Adhering to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures. 
  • Identifying, managing, and reducing risk when it comes to client safety. Subsequently reporting any incidents that do occur. 
  • Performing all work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations along with all SFMH policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.

To qualify for this role, you must be registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and have at least two years of recent all-encompassing emergency room experience. Certification in Trauma Nursing, Emergency Nursing Pediatrics, or an equivalent is also required while an Emergency Nursing Certificate is a significant asset. 

Our ideal candidate will possess Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification or an equivalent along with Neonatal Resuscitation Certification or an equivalent. You will also use your excellent problem-solving skills, strong clinical skills, and relevant knowledge to ensure a high duty of care for all of your patients. 

Candidates with excellent interpersonal skills, strong leadership capabilities, and who are an advocate for their patients will excel in this role.
