About the Opportunities

Our client, a state-wide Not for Profit organisation has exciting opportunities available for Residential Care Workers to join the team in Mackay, QLD on a rotational 7-day roster. These positions can be offered a permanent part-time or casual basis, across two Child Safety Residentials in Mackay and Sarina.

Reporting to the Residential Case Coordinator and working in Child Safety Residentials, your main focus and responsibility will be supporting young people who are 12-17 years of age in the care of the Queensland State Department of Communities (Child Safety) who have been assessed as needing a placement different from family-based care.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include:

  • Providing and development of a nurturing environment where young people can heal, learn, grow and engage in the world with confidence;
  • Planning and conducting individual and group activities to meet young people's needs and goals;
  • Supporting and managing young people's behaviours in line with Action Behaviour Support plans;
  • Using daily task routines to provide hands-on training of life skills such as but not limited to cooking, budgeting, personal care etc;
  • Advocating on behalf of individuals and families to ensure that services accessed and provided are relevant, flexible and accessible;
  • Completing administrative duties, petty cash, case notes, time sheets and incident reports; and
  • Working with young people to maintain the hygiene and cleanliness of the house.

About You

Candidates of all experience levels will be considered, however the successful candidate must hold or at least be working towards a Certificate IV or higher in a relevant discipline.

You will have a good understanding of the role of community organisations within the youth and community sector, as well as the issues related to young people living in out of home care. Your excellent interpersonal skills, ability to easily build a rapport with young people and effectively negotiate, mediate and resolve conflicts will be essential.

Importantly, you will be a passionate and resilient individual who has a positive approach to life and a high level of personal and professional integrity.

The successful applicant will be rewarded with attractive hourly rates of $36.14 (Casual) or $28.91 (Permanent Part Time) plus allowances including shift, weekend and overnight allowances. Relocation assistance can also be negotiated for the right candidate.
