About the Opportunity

Etheridge Shire Council now has an opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer to join their team in Georgetown, QLD on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for the strategic planning and operational management of Council's works and infrastructure assets and for overseeing the engineering portfolio which includes, road works, bridges, parks and waste and water infrastructure.

In addition, you'll be responsible for the following:

  • Participating as a member of the Executive Management Team;
  • Promoting and maintaining a positive team spirit across the department;
  • Assisting in the development of the annual Engineering Services Capital and Operating Budgets;
  • Ensuring all Council works including maintenance is in accordance with Council's Community, Corporate an Operational Plan and adopted budget;
  • Identifying strategic goals and priorities for Engineering Services and providing the CEO with recommendations;
  • Preparing action plans for the implementation of approved construction and maintenance programs; and
  • Reviewing performance against the budget and ensuring any variances are identified and resolved.

About You

The successful candidate will be a Qualified Civil Engineer (minimum Diploma level) and be a Registered Professional Engineer of QLD (RPEQ) or willing to obtain certification.

In addition to your experience in civil engineering, you will have the ability to implement works programs by planning, prioritising and organising work to achieve goals.

You must have a high level of interpersonal and written communication and people management skills to ensure you are able to lead a successful team that provides the highest quality of work to deadlines. 

Due to the nature of the position, you will need to be resilient, honest and flexible to thrive in a regional location. Experience working in a remote or regional location is essential.

You will have excellent computer literacy and exhibit the skills and ability to quickly learn and use modern asset management programs. Candidates who have experience or knowledge of GIS mapping and/or Civica will be at a distinct advantage.

Knowledge of local government operations, structure and services, programs, policies and/or activities from a road and maintenance perspective will be highly regarded. Experience with the QLD state government RMPC (road maintenance performance contract) program including computer software will equip you to excel in the role.
