About the Opportunity

Liverpool Plains Shire Council now has an opportunity for a WHS & Risk Business Partner to join their team in Quirindi, NSW.

Reporting to the Manager People and Culture, this varied position will see you responsible for leading and facilitating the development, implementation and monitoring of proactive Work Health & Safety (WHS), Return to Work Injury Management and Risk Management Systems for Council. As part of this, you will also oversee the training and mentoring of employees (including Supervisors and Managers) in these systems.

This is a hands-on position with frequent travel to worksites for inspection and observation.

More specifically, some of your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Conducting internal WHS inspections and audits to monitor and ensure compliance with WHS policies and procedures;
  • Providing advice on current and emerging WHS and Risk issues, including legislative requirements, to ensure consultation and ongoing improvement;
  • Taking responsibility for the development, implementation, and review of corporate-wide WHS, Return to Work Injury Management, and Risk Management policies, procedures, reporting and recording processes, including the WHS component of worker induction programs;
  • Delivering training and education for staff and management, and developing an agreed Training Plan for the organisation on relevant WHS and Risk matters;
  • Investigating workplace occurrences/incidents (in consultation with Supervisors/Managers) and preparing appropriate reports which indicate root cause and suggested corrective action to assist in prevention of recurrences; and
  • Keeping abreast of best practice WHS by maintaining industry networking and cooperative forums for the sharing of ideas, strategies and solutions to WHS and risk issues.

About You

The successful candidate will hold a minimum of a Diploma in WHS or similar, alongside demonstrated experience in a similar position. Experience in the interpretation and application of the Work Health Safety Act, and Regulation and Codes of Practice and Mines Safety Legislation, is essential.

Due to the nature of the role, it's important that you are experienced in the development and implementation of organisation-wide WHS and Risk Management Systems within a multifaceted environment. You must also be skilled in the interpretation and implementation of EEO and WHS principles and practices.

Strong attention to detail, report writing skills, and the ability to calmly manage a number of competing priorities will be critical to your success. Although not essential, a Cert IV in Training and Assessment and/or Safework NSW approved Return to Work Coordinator Certificate will be highly regarded.

An excellent communicator, you will have well developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, including the ability to build effective working relationships and trust with stakeholders of all levels. The ability to simplify and articulate your thoughts in a way your audience will understand is imperative.

Most importantly, Council is seeking a pragmatic individual who is passionate about building, shaping and developing a strong WHS and Risk System for the organisation.
