The Lung Foundation Australia nationally employs about 25 professional/administrative staff, supported by a team of dedicated volunteers.

About the Opportunity

Lung Foundation Australia is now seeking an adaptable and strategic Executive Officer to join their dedicated team in on a full-time basis. This role can be based out of Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne.

Reporting to the General Manager Clinical Programs, Research and Innovation, you will primarily be responsible for the operational management and administration of:

  • The Australasian Lung Cancer Trials Group (ALTG) (approximately 80% of duties); and
  • The Thoracic Alliance for Cancer Trials (TACT) (approximately 20% of duties).

The Executive Officer will be held accountable for:

  • Defining and achieving long-term strategic program outcomes;
  • Building and maintaining key stakeholder relationships;
  • Identifying business opportunities and mitigating risks;
  • Providing administrative and business management support; and
  • Maintaining extensive knowledge of research frameworks and programs that may lead to funding and investment opportunities.

About You

The successful candidate will possess a relevant tertiary qualification in a business or health related discipline, alongside a background in clinical research either within an academic or clinical research organisation setting. Strong knowledge of clinical trials and the clinical trial process (including budgeting for trial activity) will be essential, as will demonstrated experience in coordinating and developing clinical trials.

Due to the executive nature of this position, it is also important you be a strategic thinker with a background in developing and managing group and study budgets, and experience in the preparation and analysis of financial reports. Excellent communication skills will also be critical, including superior writing, editing and proofreading skills to assist in proposal, grant application and reporting requirements.

An understanding of the lung/thoracic cancer space, or the ability to quickly learn, will be required. As this position is autonomous, it is imperative you be highly organised with the ability to work in line with organisational priorities and achieve deadlines. Direct experience in the pharmaceutical industry or working with industry partners is highly desirable, as is knowledge of health and medical research strategies (in particular, trials management).

Please note: This role will require regular interstate travel including overnight stays and occasional weekend work. A current Driver's License, Criminal History Check, and Working with Children Check are all requirements of this position.
