Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) aims to use its specialist knowledge and skills to prevent domestic and family violence in the community and to empower those affected by it.

About the Opportunity

Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) now has a rewarding opportunity for a full-time Senior Practitioner - Domestic & Family Violence Counselling to join their team in Cairns, QLD, with occasional travel to the other CRDVS offices as required.

This pivotal role is responsible for leading, managing and supporting the Cairns counselling team and assisting the Senior Management Team in developing and maintaining the CRDVS client programmes.

In addition, you will work to ensure CRDVS delivers an effective, innovative and quality domestic violence service to clients and stakeholders.

Day to day responsibilities may include (but will not be limited to):

  • Developing and providing appropriate, specialised face to face counselling, group work and crisis support to those affected by domestic and family violence and/or sexual assault;
  • Advocating for clients and developing and maintaining links and networks with other organisations to provide effective services;
  • Ensuring appropriate referrals and actions for clients;
  • Maintaining client resources for use in the service;
  • Providing regular clinical supervision of the counselling team; and
  • Exercising initiatives to maintain and further develop links, cooperation and networks with other organisation and government departments.

About You

Due to the nature of the role, it is crucial that the successful candidate is a specialist in domestic and family violence and/or sexual assault.

You will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual with demonstrated experience in leading and managing a team effectively. Your ability to foster and nurture a positive working environment for your team while developing strong relationships with these team members and other internal and external stakeholders and contacts will be key to your success.

The successful candidate must hold appropriate tertiary qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, Counselling) or a related discipline, along with substantial experience in providing counselling, advocacy and crisis intervention in regards to domestic and family violence and sexual assault.

Computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office applications, and demonstrated knowledge of legislation impacting on situations of domestic violence are also required.
