About the Opportunity

Council now has a newly created opportunity for a Building Services Officer to join their Planning and Environmental Services Department. This is a full-time, Monday to Friday role, with a fortnightly RDO and occasional overtime.

Reporting to the Manager Development and Regulatory Services, the Building Services Officer plays a critical role in delivering building services to support sustainable economic growth and development in the Kyogle local government area.

Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Assessing development applications in accordance with relevant legislation and planning instruments;
  • Monitoring the construction of new buildings to ensure compliance with approved plans and conditions of development consent;
  • Carrying out critical stage inspections and fulfilling the role of Principal Certifying Authority for Council;
  • Carrying out inspections including building, fire safety and swimming pool safety inspections and issuing notices under relevant legislation;
  • Investigating unauthorised building work; and
  • Providing technical advice and preparing correspondence to internal and external stakeholders on development and building compliance matters.

About You

To be considered for this position you will need to have some experience in a similar role and hold accreditation (or be eligible for accreditation), as a building certifier in categories A2, A3, A4, B1 or E1 by the Building Professionals Board of NSW. You will also need to hold a current, open Driver's License.

This role will see you spending the majority of your time doing site visits to residential and commercial properties across the Kyogle Shire. As such, you will need to have excellent time management skills, be well organised, and be comfortable working autonomously and making decisions as appropriate to the responsibilities of your role. 

Importantly, you will be calm under pressure, with the ability to interact tactfully and effectively with all levels of staff and the public and represent Council in a professional and personable manner.

This role would be well-suited to someone who has a genuine interest in living and working in the Kyogle region and a desire to build and grow a career within a small, yet highly progressive, energetic and collaborative Council environment.

This position is a 'career-graded' position which means professionals at various stages of their career may be assessed as suitable for appointment to this position, depending on their qualifications and experience. 

A competitive remuneration package is on offer between Grade 5 and Grade 8, which equates to a salary up to $78,700 + super. You will also have access to a vehicle, salary packaging and great penalty rates for any weekend work or overtime. Council also offers employees a fortnightly RDO giving you plenty of time to explore and enjoy all that the Kyogle region has to offer.

Council is also open to discussing relocation assistance with the successful candidate, should you be moving to the region.
