ERSCON is a civil engineering, development and project management consultancy, servicing clients throughout Queensland with offices located in Cairns, Sunshine Coast and Normanton.  

ERSCON’s name is an acronym for Earthworks, Roads, Services and CONstruction.  Services include highway and traffic engineering, pavement design, geotechnical investigations, aerodrome design, water supply analysis, sewerage reticulation (including pump stations), stormwater modelling and contract administration associated with land development, infrastructure projects and municipal works.

About the Opportunity

Due to ongoing growth of their project and client portfolio, ERSCON now has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Civil Designer to join their team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be based in the Cairns office, however consideration for a reasonable FIFO arrangement for the right person, to be discussed at interview stage.

Reporting to the Design Manager and working within a collaborative team of Designers across ERSCON's offices, the Senior Civil Designer is primarily responsible for the delivery of high-quality design and drafting works, ensuring that programmes and budgets are met for the agreed scope of work and services.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Civil design and drafting work including the preparation of concept/preliminary designs, detailed design/documentation (drawings and reports) and lodgement of Operational Works documentation;
  • Assisting Project Managers and supporting other team members throughout the course of a project;
  • Planning and co-ordinating drafting work within the design team, in consultation with the Design Manager;
  • Liaising with the Project Managers to check project brief, design, specifications and performance expectations and providing project status reports to the Design Manager/ Project Manager as required;
  • Co-ordinating the distribution of design information to project design team members and adequately briefing project design team members on timing and expected performance/outcome of task/s; and
  • Reviewing the performance of Designers and Drafters as required and recommend methods of improving performance to the Design Manager.

As a senior person in the Cairns office, this is a highly autonomous role that will also see you providing ongoing mentoring and support to the rest of the Design team.

About You

To be considered you will hold an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering or higher and considerable, demonstrated experience in a similar role, with a focus on land development and civil infrastructure projects. Relevant experience and strong connection/contacts with government authorities (TMR and/or Council's) would be highly regarded, but is not mandatory.

You will have strong proficiency in the use of 12D Model and AutoCAD and a detailed understanding of bulk earthworks, roads, intersections, stormwater, sewerage, water and erosion and sediment control design and documentation associated with land development and infrastructure projects.

Importantly, you will be a team player, with good communication skills

This position would be well suited to an experienced Civil Designer looking for new challenges, job variety and the opportunity to share your career experience in a mentoring capacity to the junior design team. However - ERSCON would also consider applications from Designers with say, 5 years experience, who are looking for the chance to take the next step up in their career.
