About the Opportunity

Tasmanian Health Service (THS), now has an exciting leadership opportunity for an Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery (EDNM) to join their team. This is a full-time position based in Hobart. 

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer of the Tasmanian Health Service and working collegially with the Chief Nurse of the Department of Health, this position is responsible for providing high level specialist advice on nursing and midwifery policy and clinical workforce planning with the THS, in order to support the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality integrated patient and client care.

The EDNM is also responsible for driving consistency of nursing and midwifery practice across the THS with a focus on driving cultural change towards 'Magnet' principles.

Some other key accountabilities for this position include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing high-level advice to the COO and operational units in relation to legislation that affects profession practice and regulates nursing and midwifery health professionals;
  • Establishing and maintaining an effective framework that supports strategic health workforce planning across the Tasmanian Health Service;
  • Ensuring an effective and high-quality relationship across the THS and with external groups intrastate and interstate and other key stakeholders, in relation to key nursing and midwifery issues, with the objective of improving efficiency and effectiveness; and
  • Developing and implementing strategies, policies, principles and practices supporting nursing, midwifery, clinical education and training for service delivery and ensuring service level agreements and obligations are met.

About You

To be considered for this position you must hold current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and have comprehensive knowledge of, and experience in, the profession of nursing and midwifery, gained within a multidisciplinary team. 

Any experience with Magnet and driving organisational improvements will be highly regarded.

You will have demonstrated management experience and the capacity to provide leadership and vision to a small, but dispersed team, in the maintenance of a contemporary approach to clinical practice. You will have strong interpersonal and influencing skills and be confident driving change and developing stakeholder relationships in a political environment and within a legal framework, whilst building credibility within the senior management team. 

This is a highly strategic, professional position within the organisation, but with a strong focus on operational delivery. You will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy and to identify, define and develop strategies, priorities and work standards, and allocate resources, across Nursing and Midwifery.
