About the Opportunity
Carter & Spencer now has an opportunity for an experienced Farm Manager to join their team on a full-time basis, managing relevant growing sites and farming operations in Delan, Wallaville, Bullyard and other sites as required.
Reporting to the Manager Sales & Growing Operations, you will be overseeing approximately 250 acres of black soil growing sites, ensuring the achievement of company quality, supply and profitability objectives. These are small crops, primarily of Sweet Potato, with a possible snow pea footprint in winter.
Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
- Scheduling growing and crop rotation to meet industry best practice and business needs;
- Irrigate/fertilise/crop growth and maintenance (Sweet Potato/cover crops including weed control) and other cropping as required;
- Actively and accurately record and monitor key performance indicators of farming operations and initiate corrective actions to achieve budgeted outcomes;
- Ensuring Carter & Spencer maintains the necessary food safety programs, spray dairies, crop monitoring documentation and certifications to enable supply to customer expectations; and
- Investigating and applying innovation to improve yield and growing outcomes.
To be considered for this position you must have previous small cropping experience with considerable knowledge around horticulture, crop rotation, irrigation, ground preparation, bed forming, harvesting and spraying. You will have a forklift license and a broad understanding of how to train staff and effectively operate farm machinery.
Any experience working with sweet potatoes and/or black soil will be highly regarded but is not mandatory.
