About the Opportunities

Mornington Shire Council now has 2 Storeperson opportunities with their team on Mornington Island. These are both 1 year, full time contract positions.

Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, you will be involved with all of the day-to-day aspects of Council's warehouse, including goods inwards/outwards, stocktake, accurate inventory, and security.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Receiving and issuing stock items according to demand and alerting leaders when stock is low;
  • Participating in all regular stocktakes to control loss and leakage of stock;
  • Re-organising storage of items as necessary to assist with effective asset control;
  • Answering incoming calls and acting upon issues or requests in a prompt and professional manner;
  • Obtaining, storing, and displaying Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all current and new products stored or introduced into the store;
  • Ensuring a consistently high level of customer service to the local community; and
  • Assisting in the organisation and collection of job costing information and performing daily processing of job related paperwork for stock issues.

What you need to succeed

Council is seeking candidates with an understanding of work activities, procedures, and operational functions within a warehouse environment. This includes stock control, inventory, stocktaking, ordering and purchasing methodology. 

These positions require a sound knowledge of procedures and operational methods within a stores environment, including computer skills and data entry.

Importantly, you will have demonstrated skills in Workplace Health and Safety activities, with a proven safety focus and the ability to perform manual handling tasks with no restrictions. Whilst not essential, a High Risk Work or LF Forklift license would be highly regarded, as would any qualifications in warehousing, logistics, or similar. 

Critical to your success in these roles will be the willingness and resilience to live and work in a highly remote location. You will be comfortable living and working with people from all different cultural backgrounds, including Indigenous Australians, and will be unbiased, hardworking, honest and respectful in all of your dealings with the community and other relevant stakeholders.

Mornington Island is the largest island in the group with the main township of Gununa, housing the majority of the population.
