About Youth+
Edmund Rice Education Australia Youth+ (EREA Youth+) is a network of flexible learning centres that offer young people an opportunity to reconnect with education in a setting that is non-judgemental, inclusive and flexible. With a focus on literacy and numeracy, all programming and learning activities are developed based on young people’s individual learning plans which are customised based on learning levels and what they require to re-engage.
The Carnarvon Flexible Learning Program began in 2019 to support young people of the Carnarvon region who have disengaged from mainstream education. It has a current enrolment of approximately 15 young people and looks to expand its enrolment during 2020. The program is an outreach from the Geraldton Flexible Learning Centre offering a variety of educational reengagement opportunities for young people focusing on literacy, numeracy, WA Curriculum outcomes through project based learning and wellbeing. Engagement activities including outdoor education, sport, art and cultural connections are also an integral part of the daily offerings.
The school provides holistic learning experiences that address the social needs of students and promotes their emotional, cognitive, spiritual and academic development. All staff work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide wellbeing support to the young people of the campus, including Teachers, Youth Workers, the Teacher-in-Charge and the Network Principal.
About the Opportunity
EREA Youth+ now has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a passionate Youth Worker to join the team at Carnarvon Flexible Learning Centre on a full-time basis in Carnarvon, WA.
Reporting to the Teacher-in-Charge and the Network Principal, this role will see you responsible for supporting the engagement, wellbeing and social inclusion responses of the campus as well as providing focused support to the staff and young people involved in the educational programs.
You will take on a pivotal position supporting the teacher to plan activities for a class group of up to 15, operating from a point of common ground to engage and work with young people to approach mental health issues, family issues, welfare in the home and seeking out medical health/support.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Collaborating with the team to support a socially inclusive program that responds to the physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and cultural needs of young people;
- Providing a support service and a referral point for further support services to staff and young people dealing with issues of child protection;
- Supporting and developing cultural link, community and family connections that support the engagement and connection of young people to learning and the wider community as part of a team;
- Liaising and developing service referral and provision with government and non-government agencies and appropriate levels to support health, mental health and wellbeing needs of young people; and
- Participating in the daily routines and activities of the FLC, including morning meetings, lunch, electives, outings and camps.

About You
To be considered for this position you must hold relevant qualifications in this field alongside demonstrated competency in youth work practice. Knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community will be very highly regarded.
As you will be working as part of a multi-faceted support network, your ability to support and liaise with the team will be crucial to your success in ensuring that the young people in your care understand they have a multitude of support options.
Importantly, you will have an experience and understanding of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, with exceptional interpersonal and intercultural communication and negotiation skills that enable you to engage and invest in the community to build trusting relationships.
The ideal candidate will be adaptable, passionate and pragmatic, with the tenacity and flexibility to provide realistic support to disenfranchised and disengaged Indigenous young people with the challenges they face.

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration circa $55,300 - $68,500 plus super, based on your experience and qualification level (in line with the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Perth Non-Teaching Staff Enterprise Bargaining Agreement 2014; Salary Schedule June 2019).
