About Bush Heritage Australia

The Australian bush is a place of outback wonders and rugged beauty. Bush Heritage is an independent not-for-profit that buys and manage land and partners with Aboriginal people so we can protect our irreplaceable landscapes and our magnificent native species forever.

The organisation's vision of healthy country, protected forever sees them work where they are needed most: in areas of high conservation value with low levels of protection. With the help of donors, the organisation protects and helps manage more than 11 million hectares, providing habitat for more than 6000 native species, including at least 243 threatened species.

About the Opportunity

Bush Heritage Australia now has an exciting, full-time opportunity for a Direct Marketing guru to join their Marketing and Fundraising team based in Melbourne CBD.

Each year, the organisation does four seasonal, direct marketing appeals (or cash appeal programs) asking supporters for money to fund the organisation's important conservation work.

This exciting and pivotal role is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the direct marketing program at Bush Heritage. You will develop and implement direct marketing programs to increase income from existing supporters through direct mail activities and run acquisition campaigns to attract new cash donors to the organisation. This is essentially a project management role that will see you overseeing (with support from the rest of the marketing team), the end-to-end running of these campaigns.

So, what would a normal day look like?:

  • Brainstorming with the marketing team to come up with ideas and themes for the next seasonal campaign that are inspiring, relevant and timely. A recent example was a campaign to support the habitat of native Quoll species across four regions of Australia;
  • Liaising with internal experts to get the facts to back up your new exciting idea, then liaising with external creative agencies to provide a campaign brief and STRICT budget parameters;
  • Liaising with mailing houses and Australia Post to coordinate the delivery of the campaign packs to over 30,000 supporters quarterly;
  • Ensuring all project deliverables are met within set timeframes and debriefing with the internal team on campaign success at the end of the appeal.

About You

For people with a passion for the natural environment and conservation, a job at Bush Heritage could be a way to make a real difference in protecting Australia's natural heritage!

Formal qualifications are not mandatory to be considered for this position, however you will need to have at least some demonstrated experience in a direct marketing role that has included the coordination of direct marketing materials with contractors, mail houses and other agencies. Any experience gained within the NFP sector and/or working with cash appeal or regular giving programs will be highly regarded.

Critical to your success in this role will be the ability to deliver campaign requirements within a strict, non-moveable budget. You will have excellent time management skills and be comfortable driving internal and external stakeholders to achieve project deliverables within set timeframes.

Finally, a creative flair will take you far in helping you generate content that will engage your target audience and encourage them to support your appeal cause.
