Established in the 1940's, Ross Engineering is a family-based business that has worked on some of Central Australia's most iconic projects. Based in Alice Springs, NT, they deliver a range of services and expertise for projects throughout the NT and beyond. With a dedicated team of approximately 25 staff, they provide reliable and professional specialised services, general industrial engineering, fabrication, welding, and associated activities.

About the Opportunity

Ross Engineering now has an opening for a versatile and experienced Fitter Machinist to join the team at their Alice Springs headquarters on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Workshop and Site Supervisors, you will be responsible for performing a range of maintenance, fitting, and machining tasks, including bore field maintenance, maintenance fitting, mechanical pump repairs, machinery installation, turning, milling, and welding.

More specifically, some of your key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Pipe fitting, concrete plant maintenance, and general welding repairs;
  • Operating manual lathes, mills, drills and other associated machinery;
  • Disassembling, assembling, and performing maintenance on a range of machinery, pumps, and components;
  • Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and work instructions, and using reference information including bearing tables;
  • Performing general workshop housekeeping and ensuring work complies with HSE policies; and
  • Providing supervision and mentoring to apprentices as required.

About You

You will hold a trade qualification and relevant post-apprentice experience, including extensive use of manual lathes and mills. It is essential that you are confident and capable of using manual machines, and have recent experience doing so.

Ross is looking for someone who can work autonomously and effectively problem-solve, capable of anticipating issues and suggesting solutions. You will be personable and willing to take initiative, able to work effectively with a variety of people from all walks of life.

Although not essential, Working at Height training will be highly regarded, as will any other high-risk work licenses including confined space, EWP, forklift, truck, crane or dogging.

Please Note: You will need a current Driver's License and Construction White Card.
