About the Organisation

Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS), a pioneering community-controlled indigenous community service, has a history of growth and innovation. They were founded in the early 80's with two workers in a single room providing health services, including drug and alcohol counselling, while a Koori playgroup next door offered respite and social connection for parents of small children. The organisation is now recognised as a leader in Koori services, with over 200 staff delivering innovative, holistic, person-centred programs. Fuelled by their desire to see change in their community, its leaders identify community issues, design solutions and work in partnership with other welfare providers and government agencies.

MDAS' expanding suite of programs include a family group home, a safe place for kids to escape trouble, and an increasingly comprehensive health service. Their vision is to see generations of vibrant, healthy and strong Aboriginal communities.
