About the Opportunity

COLE’s Urban Renewal Site Plan team is looking to add a self-motivated Civil Project Engineer to our team in Markham, Ontario.

In this role, you will provide design, report writing, stormwater management and engineering support across our Industrial Commercial & Institutional (ICI) Service Sector, for projects primarily within the City of Toronto and GTA. Additionally, you will support and execute project coordination activities through all stages, including planning, design, construction, forecasting and coordinating of finances and resources. Lastly, you will be expected to recognize opportunities, understand client needs, schedule and deliver projects on time and on budget.

More specifically your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing Site Plan related projects, including water, sewer and roadway design and stormwater management (experience working with the City of Toronto is preferred).
  • Obtaining land development approvals & acting as a liaison between clients and approving authorities.
  • Being involved through all project stages, from definition, through to planning, design, and construction using your demonstrated abilities to recognize opportunities, understand client needs and manage and deliver projects.
  • Scheduling projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Preparing proposals, feasibility studies, and functional service reports; develop cost estimates, tenders, and specifications.
  • Preparing reports to investigate field and design problems.
  • Preparing detailed design calculations and layouts.
  • Conducting site visits and inspections.
  • Participating in business development and liaising with clients.
  • Conducting yourself in a professional and courteous manner while dealing with any/all of the following: fellow COLE employees, utility representatives, public or private industry, etc. at all times.
  • Conducting day-to-day tasks in accordance with legislated and Company-dictated Environmental, Health and Safety mandates and other Company policies.

About You

You will have a degree in Civil Engineering combined with a current P.Eng. designation and a minimum of 5-7 years experience in a similar role. 

The ideal candidate will also have the following:

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills to work within a team and customer-oriented environment.
  • Strong self-management and technical writing skills.
  • Strong client management skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize workload to meet deadlines, with a strong focus on attention to detail.
  • Strong financial and project management skills.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.
  • Strong work ethic, motivation and judgment skills.
  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and work effectively under strict deadlines.
  • A valid Ontario Driver's License.
