Sydney Day Surgery - Prince Alfred (SDSPA) is a private free-standing medical facility, part of the Cura Day Hospitals Group, providing high quality elective same-day surgery at a reasonable cost. The company goal is to provide a safe, efficient, caring and economical alternative for those people whose surgical needs do not routinely require an overnight hospital stay. SDSPA provides quality care in a warm personalised setting.

The facility, comprising of 2 operating theatres and a procedure room, offers a broad range of surgical services for all patients. Surgical specialties include Dental, Ear, Nose & Throat, Gastroenterology, Plastic & Reconstructive, Oral-Maxillofacial and Gynaecology. They operate between the hours of 7am and 6pm.

About the Opportunity

Sydney Day Surgery - Prince Alfred now have two newly-created opportunities for a Clinical Nurse (Scrub/Scout) and Clinical Nurse (Anaesthetic/Recovery) to join their team in Newtown, Sydney.

These positions are being offered on a full-time basis, however, part-time hours could be considered for the Clinical Nurse (Scrub/Scout) position, and the other role could be split to accomodate 2 part-time positions, for a Clinical Nurse (Anaesthetic) or Clinical Nurse (Recovery) depending on your needs.

With the support of the Theatre Manager, you will be responsible for either the scrubbing and scouting or anaesthetics and recovery  teams, ensuring quality and providing mentorship as well as performing general hands-on nursing duties.

Your other responsibilities will include:

  • Providing safe, compassionate, person-centred care to the patients and families of SDSPA;
  • Acting as an effective and appropriate role model and mentor to your team of staff;
  • Leading the development of specialist clinical practice and service delivery within SDSPA;
  • Participating in quality activities with senior management to ensure SDSPA is accreditation ready; and
  • Promoting and implementing work flows to support evidence based practice within your specialty.

About You

It is essential that you are suitably qualified as a Registered Nurse and hold current AHPRA registration. You will have at least 3 years of demonstrated experience in scrubbing and scouting or anaesthetics and recovery, with relevant postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.

The successful candidates for each of these positions will be caring, compassionate and enthusiastic, with excellent clinical skills and the ability to act as a confident mentor and assertive leader to your respective teams. Previous leadership experience is not essential, provided you are able to work autonomously, act as an effective role model, and successfully develop your team and their skills.

You will be hands-on and resourceful, with the ability to quickly assess a situation and use your experience and knowledge to make effective decisions. Importantly, you will have the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, and the strong communication skills necessary to successfully liaise with surgeons, administration staff and patients. Knowledge of, and a commitment to, safe work practices and national standards will be required.
