Rights in Action (RIA) is an independent advocacy agency funded under the National Disability Advocacy Program. Operating for over 17 years, they provide independent advocacy for people with disabilities across Cairns, Yarrabah, Atherton and Mareeba.

They aim and strive to provide comprehensive advocacy for people with disabilities to uphold their human rights and to address instances of discrimination, abuse, neglect and exploitation. They strongly support cases where an individual has been taken advantage of or their rights have been infringed upon because of their disability, and support individuals who may be subject to disadvantage over and above their disability because of race and/or the isolation they often experience within society generally.

About the Opportunity

Rights in Action is now seeking a proactive and passionate Manager to join their supportive team in Cairns, QLD. This is a full-time role, working 30-38 hours per week, Monday through to Friday. 

Reporting to the Rights in Action Board of Management, you will be primarily responsible for the development of overall organisational strategy, providing financial and human resources governance, and ensuring that all services are high quality and in accordance with the RIA Service Agreements. 

More specifically, your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Monitoring industrial relations compliance and supervision and training of staff;
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and funding agreements;
  • Directly supporting, mentoring and supervising all staff members, regularly performing appraisals and reviews;
  • Working collaboratively with partners, staff and clients to identify and address service gaps;
  • Overseeing and approving the Bookkeeper in the processing of MYOB accounts, staff salaries and invoices; and
  • Presenting regular reports to the board detailing progress and achievements of programs and services.

About You

To be considered for this position you will need previous demonstrated experience in a Senior Management role, preferably with a background in Disability services. Tertiary qualifications in Business will be highly regarded. 

It is essential that you are an empathetic and personable communicator, capable of working with stakeholders and staff at all levels. Your ability to cultivate strong relationships and build rapport will assist you in mentoring staff, resolving conflicts and performing employee appraisals, as requiredIdeally, you will have experience and knowledge working in a multicultural setting and be able to work collaboratively with people from a range of cultural and social backgrounds. 

You will have experience in board report writing and have demonstrated business acumen, including comprehensive financial planning, budget development and planning skills. Highly organised, you will also have a demonstrated ability to review, develop, and implement improved systems and processes to enhance organisational efficiency and effectiveness.

The successful  candidate will have strong proficiency at using a range of computer software will be essential and you will be comfortable working autonomously. You will also have high-level interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and relate to clients and their families. 

Finally, you will be committed to the highest level of ethical conduct and the values of Rights in Action, with a genuine passion for making a difference in people's lives.

Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will hold (or willing to obtain) the following:

  • A current Queensland Driver's License; and
  • A current Working With Children's' Card (Blue Card).
