About Urapuntja Health Service

Urapuntja Health Service provides services to a population of about 1000 permanent residents who live in 16 homeland communities. A unique health service, Urapuntja delivers an outreach service to all 16 outstation communities every week, while the primary clinic is situated outside of these communities in it's own location.

Community involvement has been critical to everything that the organisation does, with the Service being developed from a desire of the Aboriginal people to have their own health service. The Board of Directors is elected from and by the community annually, with the group meeting regularly to discuss issues and make decisions relevant to the organisation. To this day, the health status of community members in this area are some of the best in the Northern Territory.
