About the Organisation

Yipirinya School is one of only a few Independent Aboriginal Community Driven Schools in Australia. It was founded by Indigenous Elders in Alice Springs, and remains under control of a 100% Aboriginal Board. The only school in Australia that teaches four Aboriginal languages, Yipirinya School has a unique history and is at the cutting edge of Aboriginal Two Way Education.

About the Opportunity

Yipirinya School currently has a full-time opportunity for a Principal to join their team in Alice Springs, NT.

Reporting to the Management Committee (Board), this pivotal leadership role is responsible for implementing the School Council's policies, objectives and plans regarding governance and educational programs, in line with reporting and legislative requirements.

More specifically, your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Providing educational leadership resulting in programs consistent with the vision and goals of the school;
  • Supervising the financial and administrative operations of the school;
  • Ensuring the development of the curriculum is relevant, engaging and of the highest quality;
  • Developing and maintaining an effective partnership between parents and staff;
  • Making sure effective staff development, deployment, appraisal, and educational and pastoral support is in place;
  • Preparing and presenting reports relating to school operations and objectives; and 
  • Acting as the face of the school at a local and national level.

About You

Yipirinya School is seeking a tertiary qualified candidate who has demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal students, ideally at a Principal level. You will be a passionate and collaborative leader, with a true passion for strengthening Aboriginal communities through education. Your enthusiasm for closing the gap in Indigenous education, coupled with a long-term change mindset, will ensure your success in this role.

This position will suit a driven education professional who demonstrates warmth, patience, and intercultural capabilityFlexibility and adaptability will be key to your success in this role, as you'll be working within a frequently changing environment. In addition, the successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with a variety of stakeholders.

It is essential you have an understanding of and be willing to deliver Two Way Education Programs. 

Please Note: To be considered, you must hold a current Ochre Card / Working With Children Check and be registered (or able to obtain registration) as a teacher in the Northern Territory prior to commencing employment. You must also be willing to undergo a National Police check.
