About the Opportunity

Parnngurr Community School has an opportunity for a full-time Primary School Teacher to join their team in Parnngurr, WA.

You will be responsible for the planning and implementation of teaching strategies for a remote Indigenous community.

Established 30 years ago, Parnngurr Community School supports 35 students within the local community, ranging from Years 1-12. Working alongside a team of two teachers and two Martu teaching assistants, there is also a position available for you partner to join the school as a handyman or in IT.

A typical day at the school involves a combination of intensive literacy and numeracy learning in the first part of the day, and practical activities such as arts and sports in the afternoons. In addition, regular on country learning with the students occurs in the afternoons. 

Providing a diverse pathway for students, the schools focuses on creating and fostering opportunities for their Year 10 students and beyond, such as movement into trade qualifications or to completion of Year 12.

About You

These are roles like no other; Parnngurr Community School is providing exciting opportunities in this remote community.

The successful candidate will have a teaching degree with WA Teacher Registration or the ability to obtain. Graduates who are looking to make a difference and experience a new and exciting opportunity are encouraged to apply with the requirement to commit to a minimum of twelve months.

You will ideally apply for this position with your partner who will have experience as a handyman or in IT.

Understanding Indigenous culture is important for the right candidate and willingness to work with the community is an advantage!

About the Benefits

About Parnngurr Community School

Parnngurr is a remote West Australian Indigenous Community located 370kms East of Newman, on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert. This is a spacious landscape of red sand, spinifex plains, honey grevillia and desert oaks under an azure sky. It is the home of 140 Martu people whose ancestors have been here since the beginning of the Dreaming. The community is built in the shadow of twin hills with particular significance to Martu, at the southern end of the Karlamilyi (Rudall River) National Park.
