The Shire of Aurukun is a local government area in far north Queensland covering more than 7,000 square kilometres. The community of Aurukun is located on the north-west coast of the Cape York Peninsula, 178km, a 1.5 hour flight to Cairns. Nearly the entire population (99.6%) lives within the township.

About the Opportunity

Aurukun Shire Council now has an opportunity for a driven Records and Compliance Officer to join their supportive team.  This is a full-time, 12 month contract position, with potential for renewal after this time.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, you will be primarily responsible for the maintenance of Council records, including filing in a logical and coherent format. You will also be in charge of coordinating and managing the databases in relation to compulsory training record. 

Your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Maintaining and updating Records Management Policy and Procedure Manual;
  • Providing administration support to Directors; 
  • Filing records and documentation logically and efficiently; 
  • Archiving all records and ensuring registers and databases are clear, as required;
  • Providing regular compliance and training reports to management; and 
  • Providing ongoing support and advice to key managers to ensure compliance obligations are met. 

About you 

The successful candidate will have experience in a Compliance and Record Management and previous administrative experience is necessary for this role. 

Ideally, you will have demonstrated experience in coordinating and managing databases, a well as demonstrated exposure to working in record keeping and compliance (Blue Cards, Yellow Cards, USI's and compulsory training records). 

Aurukun Shire Council is seeking a candidate with strong organisational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities to strict deadlines. In addition, competency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite will also be integral to this role.  

Your high-level communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to effectively build rapport with a variety of stakeholders and people from diverse cultural backgrounds. A positive attitude will go a long way toward your success, including initiative and a willingness to jump into any task at hand.

An attractive remuneration package is on offer circa $65,000 plus super negotiable with experience, plus a range of great benefits including:

  • Fully furnished housing providing with subsidised rent (up to $50 per week);
  • Annual airfares back to Cairns (after 6 months of employment);
  • Locality allowance of $81,70per week ($4,248.40 p/a) for singles or $163.40 per week ($8,496.80 p/a) for a person with dependants;
  • Access to a company pool vehicle if required;
  • 8 days isolation leave per year; and
  • Relocation assistance available, negotiable for the right candidate. 

This brings your total remuneration package to in excess of $75,000!
