About the Organisation

Yipirinya School is one of only a few Independent Aboriginal Community Driven Schools in Australia. It was founded by Indigenous Elders in Alice Springs and remains under control of a 100% Aboriginal Board. The only school in Australia that teaches four Aboriginal languages, Yipirinya School has a unique history and is at the cutting edge of Aboriginal Two-Way Education.

About the Opportunities 

Yipirinya School currently has multiple opportunities for full-time Primary School Teachers to join their team in Alice Springs, NT.

Reporting to the School Principal, these roles will be responsible for providing an effective teaching program that caters for the individual needs of all students in the class. You will also implement teaching strategies that cater for the needs of teenage Aboriginal students and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, you will also be responsible for the creation, development and implementation of the primary curriculum.

About You

Yipirinya School is seeking candidates with a degree or a relevant qualification in Education who have multi age teaching experience (Primary through to Middle School). To be considered for this position you will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build report with parents and staff and effectively engage with students.

Experience working with Aboriginal students will be highly regarded, however is not essential as long as you have the ability to act in a culturally sensitive manner and have a desire to contribute to closing the gap in Indigenous education.

These positions will suit education professional who are energetic, patient and calm. Flexibility and adaptability will be key to success in these roles, as you'll be working within a frequently changing environment.

Please Note: To be considered, you must hold a current Ochre Card / Working With Children Check and be registered (or able to obtain registration) as a teacher in the Northern Territory prior to commencing employment.

  • Standard working hours of 37.5 per week;
  • Relocation assistance;
  • A Generous salary sacrificing package;
  • Annual leave with 17.5% loading during those four weeks; and
  • Long service leave in line with the Local Government Act.
