About Youth+
Edmund Rice Education Australia Youth+ (EREA Youth+) is a network of flexible learning centres that provide young people an opportunity to reconnect with education in a setting that is non-judgemental, inclusive and flexible. With a focus on literacy, numeracy and wellbeing, all programming and learning activities are developed based on young people’s individual education plans which are differentiated based on each young person’s learning needs and what they require to re-engage.
Geraldton Flexible Learning Centre (GFLC) is a coeducational Catholic CARE school in the Edmund Rice tradition and part of the EREA Youth+ Central West Flexi Schools Network. It has a clear commitment to social justice and stands in solidarity with young people of all social, cultural and religious backgrounds, with a particular sensitivity to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture.
The school provides engaging learning experiences that address the social needs of students and promotes their emotional, cognitive, spiritual, physical and educational development. All staff work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide wellbeing support to the young people of the campus.
About the Opportunity
GFLC, provides much needed alternative education program for disenfranchised young people. Within the scope of the FLC, they offer onsite and offsite/mobile engagement programs. Teachers partner with a youth worker to provide engaging educational and wellbeing programs for secondary aged young people who have been disenfranchised from mainstream education for many complex reasons. GFLC programs have a focus on literacy and numeracy as well as engagement programs. In 2020, GFLC will require an experienced Teacher for the following program:
Teacher - Male Mobile Education Program
This is a 12 month back-fill position for 2020.
The male mobile education program provides young people with the opportunity to build their educational, self-regulation, and social skills to enable them transition into one of GFLC's onsite classes.
This position will see you working with a group of secondary aged boys with complex needs. Experience in outdoor adventure-based learning would be an advantage to this position, delivering literacy and numeracy through project based learning in community and outdoor spaces. Being creative in your delivery of education is a must for this position.

About You
To be considered for this position, you must hold relevant tertiary qualifications in Teaching and be eligible for registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia, in addition to at least 3 year's experience in a diverse Primary or Secondary educational environment.
To best accommodate the young people who attend GFLC, candidates with primary/secondary background are desired, however significant experience in secondary schools where young people are disengaged and disenfranchised will be highly regarded.
The ideal candidate will be independent and highly organised, with the tenacity and adaptability to support disenfranchised and disengaged Indigenous young people with the challenges they face. Your ability to cope with rapid change in daily plans and develop individualised approaches to suit the young peoples needs will be crucial to your success. A demonstrated experience in integrating wellbeing into your pedagogy and curriculum, in addition to a flexible and patient behaviour management approach is essential.
Most importantly, you will have an experience and understanding of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, with exceptional interpersonal and intercultural communication and negotiation skills that enable you to engage and invest in the community to build trusting relationships.

In return for your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration circa $73,000 - $103,000 plus super, based on your experience and qualification level (in line with the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Perth Teachers Enterprise Bargaining Agreement 2015; Salary Schedule June 2019.).
In addition, EREA Youth+ also provides ongoing professional development opportunities and is dedicated to improving its staff.
Please note: Prior to commencement, you must obtain a Working with Children Clearance. This role requires regular travel around Geraldton, including transporting students, and as such, a Current Unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence is essential, with Light Rigid/Heavy Rigid highly regarded. Licence training will be provided for successful applicants.
