About the Opportunity

Due to newly awarded funding, Rural Financial Counselling Service NSW (Central Region) is now looking for a Small Business Financial Counsellor to join their team based in Dubbo, New South Wales. This position is being offered on a part-time basis with a fixed term contract through to June 2021, and further extensions being subject to supplementary funding being made available.

As a Small Business Financial Counsellor your primary responsibility will be to provide financial counselling assistance to small businesses experiencing financial difficulties due to the current drought, by analysing their financial circumstances and identifying their financial and business options. You will help clients identify ways to become self-reliant and better equipped to manage change and adjustment.

Some of your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Providing case management support to small business operators;
  • Assisting and supporting clients to understand their financial position and viability of the business enterprise;
  • Identifying options to improve their financial position;
  • Developing a plan in consultation with the client, then providing advice and guidance on how to effectively implement that plan; and
  • Assisting in negotiations with lending institutions in relation to loan applications and contracts with those institutions, and processes relating to small business debt mediation.

Please note: Although primarily office based, it will be a requirement that you travel across the designated service area to promote the new service as well as to meet with business owners. A company vehicle will be provided to you for this purpose.

About You

To be successful in this role you will hold (at minimum) a Diploma in Community Services (Financial Counselling), however other finance related qualifications and experience will also be considered. You will also have a demonstrated ability to prepare detailed financial analysis for clients and the ability to present a range of financial and business options for business improvement or adjustment, with a focus on helping clients adapt and change.

RFCSNSW-CR are looking for individuals with high level oral communication, interpersonal, mediation and networking skills, including the ability to effectively interact with diverse cultural groups.

Given the nature of these roles, some experience in small business development would be ideal, however this is not mandatory providing you are a confident and approachable person who can quickly gain the confidence of the local community.

An understanding of rural issues, including small business impacts and issues, will also be critical to your success. Demonstrated skills in digital interaction, marketing and effective communication using social media, will be a great advantage.

Although strongly supported, you will be working predominantly independently and as part of a team; as such it is important you are self-motivated, have the ability to plan, manage and report on work underway and completed, and able to prioritise in order to meet competing deadlines.

Please note: You will need to hold a current, unrestricted Driver's License and be willing to undergo a national police check.

About the Benefits

This is a rare opportunity to provide a positive and much needed service to regional communities in NSW.

For your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with a pro-rata'd remuneration, commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus salary packaging options.

In addition to the financial benefits, you will enjoy an intensive induction and training program when you join the organisation, ensuring you are equipped with all the tools you need to hit the ground running.
