About the Opportunity

Barkly Engineering now has an opening for an experienced and flexible Senior Estimator / Planner to join their team on a full-time basis. This role is based in Mount Isa, QLD, with some travel to client sites as required.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will primarily be responsible for preparing quotes and delivering quality, competitive tenders on behalf of Barkly Engineering, working with the workshop staff to ensure that tendered work is scheduled and resourced appropriately. 

More specifically, some of your key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Building and maintaining strong business relationships with clients, identifying opportunities to increase Barkly's market share where and when appropriate;
  • Preparing and documenting quotes or tenders that maximise profitable business outcomes and meet client specifications and expectations;
  • Deciphering received tender documents and developing a plan and initial work schedule;
  • Ensuring tenders are completed within acceptable timeframes, meet quality standards, and have minimal Barkly-initiated variations; and
  • Supporting workshop supervisors and other staff as needed.

About You

The successful candidate will hold a trade qualification in a fabrication, fitting, or similar. You will have demonstrated experience in an estimating or tendering related role, within the manufacturing or mining industries.

Barkly Engineering is looking for someone who can work autonomously and effectively problem-solve, capable of anticipating issues and suggesting solutions. You will be personable and willing to take initiative, able to work with a variety of people from all walks of life.

You will have the well-developed communication skills needed to effectively building relationships with clients, suppliers, and other relevant stakeholders, maintaining regular communication, attending meetings or providing regular reports as required.

Strong leadership skills and a sound understanding of financial, cost, and business management principles will be essential, as will the ability to confidently use the Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project software, with basic CAD drafting skills advantageous.
