About Diabetes Australia & the NDSS

Established in 1984, Diabetes Australia is the national body for people affected by all types of diabetes and those at risk. They work in partnership with diabetes health professionals, educators and researchers to help reduce the impact of diabetes on the Australian community.

The National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) was formed in 1987, and Diabetes Australia has managed the delivery of the scheme in partnership with successive Australian Governments since its inception. The NDSS aims to enhance the capacity of people with diabetes to understand and self-manage their life with diabetes through access to services, support and subsidised diabetes products.

About the Opportunity

Diabetes Australia has an exciting opportunity for a Programs Coordinator to join their Canberra team. This role is being offered on a full-time basis up to June 2020 as per the current NDSS government funding agreement, with extension likely.

Reporting to the NDSS National Programs Manager, you'll be responsible for providing program management oversight, supporting the national delivery of the NDSS, as well as building capacity within the team.

Your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Leading any activities required to maintain ISO9001:2015 certification;
  • Maintaining and developing policies, processes and procedures to support efficient and effective NDSS operations and services;
  • Overseeing ongoing Programs Team activities to ensure strategic objectives and planned outcomes are achieved on time and within budgetary allocations;
  • Providing timely and accurate responses to information and service requests from all NDSS stakeholders;
  • Identifying risks and championing a quality management system, informed by a risk-based approach, and underpinned by a commitment to continuous quality improvement; and
  • Ensuring NDSS services are focused on meeting the needs of individuals who are impacted by diabetes, target high needs/high risk targets groups and are consistent and aligned with the service pathways.

About You

To be successful in this position, you must have a demonstrated ability to assess and prioritise competing demands from multiple stakeholders in order to meet deliverables and support strategic objectives.

Whilst tertiary qualifications in a health, management, or business-related field will be highly regarded, this is not essential provided you have a solid background in project or program management and experience in providing direction, mentoring and supervision.

Working in a small team, you must bring an organised, proactive and mature approach to this role, with a level of organisation and flexibility that allows you to very rapidly negotiate and respond to changes in focus.

The ideal candidate will have experience, or the ability to quickly gain skills in, maintaining management systems that meet the requirements for ISO certification or similar accreditation systems.

As you will be a key liaison for an extensive set of stakeholders, the ability to stay cool under pressure or whilst dealing with complex situations and conversations will be crucial to your success. You will have the confidence to both provide advice to team members and ask questions when necessary, and be a firm and assertive, but not aggressive, negotiator.

About the Benefits

In return for your hard work and dedication, will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package up to $100,000 including super, negotiable based on your skills and experience. You will also have access to salary sacrificing options.

Diabetes Australia is committed to providing their employees with flexible working options and hours. A thriving organisation with a fantastic culture, you will be welcomed into a small, yet friendly team of highly driven professionals who are focused on delivering real and meaningful outcomes to the 1.3 million Australians living with diabetes and registered with the NDSS.
