About the Organisation

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (Anyinginyi) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region.

Anyinginyi consists of five different sections covering a wide array of services such as clinical care and social and emotional well being, health promotions, sports and active lifestyle and administrative services. This diversity allows for a holistic approach to health, ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and well-being is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi health service delivery area stretches north of Tennant Creek to Elliott, across to the east, almost to the QLD border and south to Ali Curung - almost 150,000 square km.

About the Opportunity 

Anyinginyi has an exciting opportunity for a passionate Health Promotions Officer to join their team in Tennant Creek, NT. This role is being offered on a full-time basis, as part of a 1-2-year contract.

Reporting to the Public Health Section Manager, you will primarily be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating regional and local health promotion activities, helping to embed good health promotion practice and health education into communities within the Barkly Region.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Undertaking research and gathering statistical information into health issues in Tennant Creek and the Barkly region,
  • Developing a monthly schedule of culturally appropriate health education events and programs;
  • Coordinating the staffing and resources for relevant events and activities, in collaboration with Anyinginyi Health Section Managers;
  • Running educational presentations for Anyinginyi Health staff and other stakeholders about health issues throughout the Barkly Region;
  • Engaging with relevant Continuous Quality Activities within the public health section; and
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with Indigenous and mainstream service providers and key agencies within the region.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally hold a tertiary qualification in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Sciences or Community related field, and have demonstrated experience in developing and coordinating health promotion activities or events.

Due to the nature of this role, you will need to have a clear understanding of community development practices that encourage community management, control and ownership, and experience in developing detailed action plans within a community development framework.

It is essential that you are a personable communicator, with the ability to act with tact and diplomacy using various means of communication, and experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will have a respect for traditional Aboriginal Culture, and the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively to a diverse audience.

You will have strong organisational skills and the ability to autonomously manage and prioritise competing deadlines. With proven computer literacy, you will be confident using and learning a range of software.
