About the Organisation

Established in 1984, Diabetes Australia is the national body for people affected by all types of diabetes and those at risk. They work in partnership with diabetes health professionals, educators and researchers to help reduce the impact of diabetes on the Australian community.

In collaboration with the Australian Government and state or territory diabetes organisations, Diabetes Australia provides practical assistance, information and subsidised products to 1.3 million Australians with diabetes, through the administration of a number of national programs.

About the Opportunity

Diabetes Australia is currently looking for an experienced and confident Finance Manager to join their dynamic team in Canberra, ACT, on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the General Manager (Corporate Services), you will be responsible for leading a team of five, whilst managing the financial reporting, management accounting, and all other financial activities for Diabetes Australia.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing financial and management reports and discussing key outcomes with Management;
  • Overseeing the production of financial accounts and coordinating all arrangements for annual audits;
  • Preparing the annual budget and revising forecasts periodically;
  • Managing taxation obligations and providing in-house technical accounting and taxation advice;
  • Overseeing payroll activities and controlling the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions;
  • Supporting the General Manager (Corporate Services) in meeting HR Management responsibilities; and
  • Monitoring relevant financial policies and procedures, maintaining an appropriate system of financial and accounting controls.

What You'll Need to be Successful

Diabetes Australia is looking for a professionally qualified accountant with a strong understanding of the preparation and management of budgets, alongside the ability to manage payroll.

You'll be a confident and driven leader, with the ability to effectively oversee a small team and provide ongoing mentoring, advice and performance management. Proactive and resilient, you will be assertive when necessary and capable of setting expectations and ensuring these are met.

A highly effective communicator, your strong interpersonal skills will be essential in ensuring you can effectively build and maintain working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. You will also need to have a hands-on, driven approach coupled with a strong eye for detail. 

You will have a high level of computer literacy alongside a willingness to build upon this knowledge, with the ability to use Microsoft Excel in order to analyse and effectively communicate technical data to a range of non-technical audiences.
