General Practitioner / VMO

Job No: 127587
Location: Coonamble

About the Organisation

Coonamble Aboriginal Health Service (CAHS) was established in 2007 as a result of local Aboriginal community members who were concerned about the health and wellbeing of their community. Responsible for a variety of services in the area, including the local gym, funeral service, and dental practice, they employ over 90 staff and operate multiple clinics across West and Far West NSW. The service currently operates the only GP clinics in Coonamble, supporting the entire community through the CAHS Medical Centre and the Castlereagh Health Centre, which is their mainstream practice.

GP Opportunities with a Difference

Coonamble Aboriginal Health Service (CAHS) is currently looking for General Practitioners to join the CAHS Medical Centre and Castlereagh Health Centre (CHC), also supporting the local hospital as a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO), on a 1 in 3 on-call roster. These roles are available on either a permanent full-time or contractor basis, depending on your needs.

You'll be well-supported by a fantastic team of Nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers, and visiting Allied Health professionals, as well as CAHS' passionate management team, who ensure any overtime or on-call hours are taken into account, and you're given plenty of rest in between. Depending on the clinic, you'll be seeing around 14 - 26 patients a day, with CAHS generally providing 20 minute appointments and CHC offering shorter, 15 minute time-slots.

To be successful, you will need to be a qualified GP who has, or is eligible for, full registration with AHPRA

Previous experience working in regional areas or with Aboriginal communities would be an advantage but is not essential, as would any experience in Aged Care, as the service supports a weekly clinic at the local Aged Care facility.

Friendly, and a genuine team-player, it's crucial that you can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide the best care possible to your patients,
